this news is a few days old but still very interesting
We've got some cool news direct from the DVD Entertainment Group (DEG) today. In only its 5th year as a viable format, the one-billionth DVD software unit is anticipated to ship to retail here in North America this month! Pre-recorded video cassettes took nearly 10 years to reach this same benchmark. The DVD Entertainment Group also expects more than 20 million DVD players to have shipped in 2002 by year's end. “If growth continues at the current rate, DVD will be in more than 40 million households by the end of 2002," says Reid Sullivan, DEG board member and Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co. vice president, entertainment group. “When you also include the growing number of PCs with DVD-ROM drives and game consoles with DVD capability, nearly 50 percent of U.S. homes will have the format by year-end."
And that's something to crow about. You early adopters remember when you had the only DVD player in your neighborhood or even your town? DVD's definitely come a LONG way in 5 short years!
now where can i put my 1 BILLION DVDs .....:butt:
