The UK Cuts
The Matrix was cut by approximately ten seconds in the UK to obtain a consumer friendly "15" certificate. This version was released on DVD. Warner did not resubmit an uncut version to the BBFC in order to obtain an "18" certificate. The UK version is rated "15" as is the R4 version. The R1 and R4 versions are uncut.
The cuts are identified here:
Cut 1: During the bathroom fight scene between Morpheus and Agent Smith, Morpheus headbutts Smith knocking his sunglasses off. Smith retaliates with three headbutts to Morpheus.
Cut 2: During the subway fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith, Smith headbutts Neo twice whilst their arms are locked.
Cut 3: During the subway fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith, Neo headbutts Smith twice whilst their arms are locked.
As a direct result of these cuts the Audio Commentary and Isolated Score were out of sync with the rest of the film. They therefore had to be dropped from the UK R2 DVD.
