Gaumont 08-06-2002, 08:09 PM somone should sue these bastards for makeing the material exlusive in both the reliaces.
Lafce 08-06-2002, 09:29 PM This will be fantastic!!! I can't wait to see the new scenes!!!
The scene with the Elves leaving Middle-earth will be wonderfull...;)
Kn'thrak 08-07-2002, 12:19 AM lovely new scenes...
Movie Wizard 08-07-2002, 04:31 AM It looks great but... i dont like the fact that they bring one out now and then bring that out 3 months later. They should have brought them out at the same time.
Kn'thrak 08-07-2002, 05:34 AM it takes time to do the DVD itself and add extra scenes. They are going it all for more money in the end since more DVD sells if the movie was just taken out of the movies than wait a long time. Adding extra scenes and doing the special including music... it all takes time.
Most ppl just want the movie and thats it. Freaks like us want the extras ;)
trailergod 08-07-2002, 06:08 AM actually the 4 disc DVD are already shipped and are just waiting in the warehouses of all these shops, some DVD reviewers got copies of the 4 disc DVD already last June.......
its all a marketing thing, the only reason it has so many Disc is that its a long movie...
....... i really hope they can make a new DVD format, bigger capacity that is playable on current players....
I think that releasing this extra disk a few months after the first disk is a great way to make money. There will be people who will only buy one of the versions, which means they get the money off of them whatever, but loads of people are like me, they'll get the extended version for the extra scenes, but can't wait till November to get the film, renting is not the same, and so will get this version now.
Damn those smart lawyers at Hollywood.
I mean it's not as if I'm dumb or anythin is it.:embarasse
Have you guys noticed that the director's cut was supposed to be rated R but now, if you check everywhere, it's gonna keep the PG-13 rating.
trailergod 08-07-2002, 04:15 PM just some info on the difference between the fullscreen and the widescreen
However, as with many other DVDs these days the movie is available in both widescreen and fullscreen formats. With the word going around that the film was shot "Super 35", we've been getting a lot of emails wondering if you actually do get more image in the fullscreen edition of the movie as opposed to the widescreen.
The answer there is that you may get more image to the top or bottom of the picture (depending on how the shot was framed), but you still lose some information on the sides. Despite being filmed Super 35, the film was meant to be seen scope and many shots were set up that way.
Most notably, the shot of all nine members of the Fellowship standing in a line was made for a 2.35:1 or "scope" aspect ratio. In the fullscreen edition of the movie, the shot is squished to fit into the 1.33:1 or 4:3 frame.
The most noticeable example of extra information at the bottom of the screen comes in the close-ups of Aragorn and Arwen during their scene on the bridge in Rivendell.
But chopping off information from the sides or squishing an image to fit in the frame isn't the only problem with a fullscreen release such as this. Since sometimes you'll get more image at the top or bottom of the screen, occasionally something that wasn't supposed to be there will appear.
A good example of this comes late in The Fellowship of the Ring, right before the Fellowship spots the Argonath. As they head down the river canyon, you can spot a telephone pole at the top of the screen. This isn't seen in the widescreen version as it wasn't part of the frame, but it's there in the fullscreen transfer

so dont buy the fullscreen.... u are gonna see movie mistakes... which is not present in the widescreen
Movie Wizard 08-07-2002, 04:25 PM Its all the marketing crap, i wish they would bring them both out now so you can buy ither one, BUT NOOOO!
 :bday: :big grin: :D

the companies are not using 2 discs or 4 cuz they need too. They do it cuz it sounds alot more and ppl will pay more for 2 disc than 1 contaiing the same amount.
ok there are proberbly some moves that need the 2 discs, but most of them NO WAY.
a DVD singel layer one sisd has a capacaty of 4.7 GB. a Dual Layer 4.7x2 = 9,4 GB. now are there many moves that take up that space? NO. the extra isent as good quality and dont take th esame abount of space.
and double sided DVDs take 4.7x4 = 18.8 GB.
Again. 2 dics will get them more cash. It not a capasity issue.
and YES current DVDs can read dual layer. U have to get a REALLY old one not to be able to read double.
