I've just discovered something : It's cheaper to buy the extended cut + national geographic DVD than to buy the gift set. And besides the statues and cards, it's the same content.
Amazon.com
extended cut = 25.99$
national geo = 21.49$
Total = 47.48$
Gift Set = 59.94$

It looks like a realy great set, BUT... for some $80 plus US its too expensive. I already bought the 2 disk edition and its good enuf for me. When i have that kinda money iam just gona buy it all in one package it 3 years.

Oh no!!
On Comingsoon.net, it said the director's cut of LOTR was going to be rated R (for extra violence at Amon Hen)
Now I can't find that piece of news to provide a link
Damn. I was really looking forward to that. On the back of the box, it says it is still PG-13 for the same things as in the theatrical version. :( :(

I know, I noticed that a while ago too but I think it's better that way. The Lord of the Rings is a tale of fantasy and adventure, I don't think there's any room for violence.

I think realism makes any movie better.
All movies with lotsa gore are awesome:
Gladiator
Saving Private Ryan
Braveheart
Black Hawk Down
Extra violence is more real.
However, since LOTR is a fantasy and nothing else is real, maybe you are right.

gee, I love these 4 movies (and I think u forgot "the Patriot"!!)
LOTR could have had more realism, but a great deal of ppl LOVE it as it is (including me) ;)

PS - (yeah I did forget Patriot although its not as bloody as the others IMO: still a fabulous movie)
