View Full Version : insensitive Hollywood does it again carl 12-30-2002, 06:58 AM http://www.theofficersclub.com/rotkpo/ I give it more credance than the last one:D Kn'thrak 12-30-2002, 08:51 AM I keep on saying this.... There is ALWAYS one party of ppl that come up with insane viewpoints. Thats all i'm saying for now... and they don't deserve any more credit! ZUBi 12-30-2002, 09:11 AM just 1 word: IDIOTs !  flying_dug0ng 12-30-2002, 09:13 AM "As stated elsewhere, this activity gives us an ego boost, a sense of purpose in our otherwise dull lives and above all... we hope it will get us chicks somehow." Somehow I don't think those guys are serious :D trailergod 12-30-2002, 01:56 PM u guys did not read it properly..... its a JOKE !!!!!! ... lol carl 12-30-2002, 02:25 PM Originally posted by flying_dug0ng Somehow I don't think those guys are serious :D Well Im glad someone else realized that.:P Granite 12-30-2002, 02:48 PM Yes always read the fine print: Originally said by The Return of the King Protest website Please read: This site is a parody of the Two Towers Protest Organization Site, which I'm sure you'll agree is rather pathetic. I was as shocked and horrifed as everyone else as I watched the events of 9.11 unfold, however to say the makers of the LOTR films are essentially using the 9.11 tradegy as a marketing tool is utter horsehit. This parody site may put it into perspective, since hey... we were all affected by the death of Elvis right? Comments? Lawsuits? Hate mail? email me Hidden from the silly people who want to ruin the joke for themselves :big grin: Go read the website! It's really funny! carl 12-30-2002, 03:01 PM And if you're still not convinced it's satire check out the FAQ.:D Marcus 12-30-2002, 03:07 PM http://smilies.networkessence.net/s/contrib/geno/rofl.gif Parody = funny. Wasn't the first one (The Two Towers thing) also some kind of joke? I mean it had to be - how could anyone actually have that viewpoint? Granite 12-30-2002, 04:03 PM Check out the Two Towers protest too (there's a link in the fine print of this joke protest page). I think its real because it references pressure to move back "Phone Booth" because of the sniper killings in Washiington DC . On the home page there is also a hyperlinked "." which takes you to a webtracking page for the website. Sometimes the truth is funnier than fiction.... drunkenGuru 12-30-2002, 05:41 PM haha.... you're right... truth IS funnier than fiction.... this is from the two towers site: "The creators of the movie have free speech, so what makes you think they should have to change the name of the movie? We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change. Don't you think that renaming the movie would tarnish JRR Tolkien's works of art? No, we do not believe this. Many of our members are actually fans of JRR Tolkien's books, and we think that if Peter Jackson stepped in to rename the movie, it would increase, not decrease, the good things that JRR Tolkien's works have done." What a bunch of morons... editman 12-30-2002, 05:49 PM LOL. :D And you gotta admit: someone out there may do the same seriously. blugh 12-30-2002, 06:33 PM I just don't know what to say. I mean, for pete's sake, do these guys think that renaming it WON'T affect the work, and people's regard for Tolkien. I mean, if the second book was called "The World Trade Center lies in ruins you capitalist pig-dogs hahaha!" I could understand. But it's not. Gaumont 12-30-2002, 08:22 PM As stated elsewhere, this activity gives us an ego boost, a sense of purpose in our otherwise dull lives and above all... we hope it will get us chicks somehow. lol carl 12-30-2002, 08:33 PM Originally posted by Marcus http://smilies.networkessence.net/s/contrib/geno/rofl.gif Parody = funny. Wasn't the first one (The Two Towers thing) also some kind of joke? I mean it had to be - how could anyone actually have that viewpoint? Well it was originally a guy trolling an internet forum. I forget his username but apparently he was a really good troller who came up with original idea's. He came up with the idea of claiming the two towers was in bad taste and people took it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to seriously. The result was the web sight and petition that caused a lot more offense than the name The Two Towers ever did.
