Nullsoft Winamp is a fast, flexible, high-fidelity music player for Windows. Winamp supports MP3, CD, Audiosoft, Audio Explosion, MOD, WAV and other audio formats, custom appearances called skins, plus audio visualization and audio effect plug-ins. additional features including free-form skins, a new decoder, built-in cross fade, and an advanced Media Library.

it's basically Winamp 2 which supports Winamp 3 skins
infact it's much of winamp 2.9x
suppurting ffs and cd-ripping (but no lame_enc.dll)

yeah. I really don't like v3 too.

now using v2.95 (x86) - Jun 24 2003
it plays AVI & m2v files with no problems

& I might check v5...

so its v3 but b2??!!? i thought the only big difference between v3 and 2 was the skinning??

There wasn't a version 4. It's a marketing strategy, to prevent people from saying "3 sucked, why would I move to 4."

I'm using 2.91. I tried 3 and it sucked. Crashes more than Windows 98 used to crash.

Still, I've no idea why I would move to 5 or 6, the MP3 file format didn't change!

Yeah I've been sticking with 2.91. The 3 version sucks, a lot slower, and not as simple to change ID tags in MP3's. I like the simplicity and the speed of 2.91. I think that was the main idea for Winamp in the first place. Now they're adding all this extra crap I'd never use on it anyway (or that I have other apps for).

I see than on official site there is 2.91 as latest,
but Me running better/improved 2.95 ;)

No Winamp 3 is the new one they're offering, but they still provide the option of downloading 2... which I use.

ahhh gotcha. I think I'll be sticking with 2.91 as well. Works great.

i have just been doing loads of reading about winamp.... there are two seperate products

winamp3 (which is not winamp v3) and there is winamp 2.x

winamp3 is based on the wasabi engine, and the point of wasabi was not to base an entire new string of mp3 players on it merely it was a new platform that winamp3 got to show off.

winamp 5 will be the next in the line of winamp 2.x series.. why 5... well 2+3 =5 ;) inside joke from the nullsoft guys..
