damn, finally saw this movie, after waiting for so long. DVD is a blind buy and I asked around (here at ML) if this movie is good and I only got negative reponses.

Well, IMO this movie is not crap, its one of the most original comedy/fantasy movie I have seen. It deals with a very philosophical subject matter, about having control of one self and self existence.

On the lighter side it deals with human relationships and infidelity. What really intrigued me about this movie is the metaphysical aspect of it. Are we really who we think we are? Do you think someone else is actually controlling us? So many movies deal with this theme, but Being John Malkovich executed it in a very different and original way. I highly recommend this movie; it is hilarious yet very intriguing. It not maybe a movie for all, but it surely makes us think :)

Who gave a negative response?
This fim is great, haven't seen it in a while so I wont comment yet, but I just wanted to say how much I liked it.

Also see Adpation from the same writer.

some ineresting trivia,

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120601/trivia

There is a reason the portal is on the 7 1/2 floor. God (who is traditionally associated with the number 7), according to the Bible, "can experience through us, influence us, and speak to us, but never will he actually take control of us". When those who enter the portal actually start taking control of Malkovich's life, they go one step above God - thus explaining the 7 1/2 floor instead of 7.

so interesting to know the real intention of these writers ...hehehe

I did not like it that much. The film was just too trippy and tried a bit too hard I thought. Dont get me wrong Im a bing John Cusack fan but this movie just didn't do anything for me.
