Here's the original theatrical teaser to the great Baz Luhrmann interpretation of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet.
The much rarer trailer is coming later today.

thanks for the cool trailer :)
i never saw the movie. is it good? did they keep the Shakespearean dialogue with the modern day setting? did it not look or sound chessy having it in modern setting using "non-Shakespearean" actors?

Yes, it was extremely cheesey seeing Leo use Old English when playing Pool. I dunno why the film was so popular, with the girls it's understandable, but everyone else. :freak:
Hurrah! Something other than Star Wars!

I really enjoyed the movie. At first it's a little jarring seeing them use the original dialogue in modern times, but I think it's a cool idea. I think the movie is really entertaining and well-made, I can't believe you've never seen it!!

Then I guess you'll never have carpet burns... :P
Back to the topic: R+J is probably my least favourite Baz Luhrmann film - too wordy.
Yes I can stand Moulin Rogue.
But Strictly Ballroom is always editman's fav. Sadly no trailer available on DVD anywhere :(

Here's what you to do: Rent it, see the first 10 minutes, return it.
The entire opening is pretty funny (and looks like a trailer itself)
After that though, there are so many cuts....like...not just minor line edits or skipping some dialoge... (note to anyone covering R+J in school incase you couldn't tell by now - this is NOT the movie you want if you don't want to read the play :P We watched it in class afterwards for a laugh and to show how different books and movies can be)
Paris doesn't get killed? WTF? How can you skip that? You see him once or twice and then he's gone, not mentioned.
If you plan to watch it, I guess it's worth a laugh because it's so....out of place. But be familiar with the play - it's not to bad a read (Shakespeare's shortest)
Other then that, the day people start fighting with guns called "Sword 9mm" with religous icons painted on the handles....holy crap that's retarded. :P
Personally, I think if you're going to do a modren adaptation, update the speech as well. Tell the same love story, but tell it all completly new. OR....KEEP the script, follow it, and keep the setting fairly true as well.

I only saw two movie adaptations: this and the 1960s Franco Zeffirelli version. Both don't have it. In fact, since I've never read the book, WTF's so important about it?

A strict-by-the-book adaptation? Been there, done that.
Change the speech? Well then it'll just be like any B-grade teen movie these days.
This movie stands out because it's Shakespeare 'revamped', either in a positive or negative way. You may hate it but it's what's so special about it.
I will remember that movie fom the rest of my life (hehehe).
read that (i think i already mention that some time ago): I was watching that movie in cinema with one babe. one row behind Us there was two kids (likely around 15). one of them constantly speak thru the movie. I warned Him a couple of times (2 or 3 times to please not to speak thru the movie), but nothing... then I stand up, turn around & SLAP Him in front of all visitors... :big grin:
damn kids & culture in the cinemas! :upset:

lol, i have never seen anyone getting slapped in the theater :)
i only had an argument about a year ago with someone talking through his cell phone for 5 minutes right next to me, but it was only verbally ;)
b2t:
i like the movie, it offers something different. i have first seen it on tv, because at the time it came out no guy from my class would have gone and see a movie starring leonardo di caprio

You go ZUBi... hehe...
Yes don't you just hate people talking during movies?
I saw Pirates of the Carribeans last Friday. In the middle of it someone rang some chick's mobile. Even though she whispered she secured herself a 'Shut up!' from some guy the row in front.
Some people just have no respect to the entire concept of threatre-going experience.

absolutely :)
i already hate it when a cell phone rings during a movie, but i really hate those people that answer the phone and talk for some time. why don't they just download the movie and leave the theater to those people that actually want to see the movie.
