i think Seabiscuit should be nominated for best Picture, actor, supporting actor

and Finding Nemo should be best animated picture

and The Matrix Reloaded should be best visual effect

i really don't care for awards and all... i kinda like watching mtv awards and all cuz it's more interesting.... the oscar and the emmys and golden globes are boring.... :boring:

It's boring yes. I only love the stage design they come up with every year.

And The Matrix Reloaded is the only worthy nominee for Visual Effects this year.

Well, dead line for submission for most of the categories (but for the Animated, Documentary, and Scientific) is the 31st of December of each year.

So, judged movies are the ones from January 1st, 2003 to December 31st, 2003...

2003 :)

well...it's no wonder that LOTR:ROTK will win a majority of awards. people forget that the awards are just a politcal vehicle...
considering that LOTR has garnered ALOT of money for new line (and coupled with the fact that pete has done an excellent job)...LOTR will probably win best director, best cinematography, best visual effects, best score...

i can see LOTR winning more awards than anyone else. there were some good movies this year, but nothing can compare to LOTR.

everybody wants the LOTR movies to win and P Jackson to win, and maybe in this 3rd movie he could win. His biggest chance however was with the 1st movie. But anyway lets just see and wait.

for special effects i would say Pirates would win

as for actors, movie, actree... it is still too early to say the Oscar season still did not start usually it starts late Autumn and Winter. This is the time when studio release and advertise their "oscar" contenders .... or "art films" that nobody likes ..lol

Naaah, Pirates wouldn't even get nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Note that it's an Academy Award for achievment in Visual Effects. Pirates didn't achieve anything. It featured the same water effects ILM did in the Perfect Storm (and got nominated for) and the same skeletons done in The Mummy(s).

That's to say, the award goes for this who did something technically new. Like what Weta did with Gollum in TTT. Now in case of ROTK, what are they doing?

The Matrix Reloaded really raised the bar. This is evident in that LOTS of scenes were mostly digital and people never noticed.

The Hulk could get nominated. ILM did some good job in the facial expressions and muscle reaction for this green silly character!!

I dunno... Pirates had the best execution of visual effects this year. Gollum will be perfect once again, and Hulk had really good animation, so I'm guessing those 3 will be the nominees.

what do you mean people didn't notice?

i would have to disagree with wireframe9. the only bar that matrix raised was the tolerance of people that paid $8 for a movie that looked like a video game. it blew....

Then we have yet another 2 people who didn't notice...

How many examples do you want?

Let's stick with one, did you know that in several scenes, we had Neo, Fishburne, Weaving & others ALL CG.

VFX R&D advanced facial animation to re-create the actors on the computer, and not only use them in background stunts, but in relative closeups, where facial animation is performed digitally.

CG EXAMPLE 1 (http://www.inbinary.com/public/ibfa_reloaded_01.jpg)
CG EXAMPLE 2 (http://www.inbinary.com/public/ibfa_reloaded_02.jpg)
CG EXAMPLE 3 (http://www.inbinary.com/public/ibfa_reloaded_03.jpg)

Video games you where saying? :geek:

The Matrix Reloaded was the first movie I have seen with the best CGI i have ever seen! It didn't even look like a CGI. it looked soooo frickin real. The whole movie wuz just awesome. I'm sure more than half of that movie were based on CGI! So I would definitely nominate it...

I'm not trying to argue w/ you guys... I'm just stating my opinion.. :P :P

The Matrix won't get nominated for best CG. It happened in 1999, so it's unlikely to be done.

It's NOT the movie that is awarded, it's the studios that makes its VFX. It's not awarded because simply it looked good (if so, X-2 would've been selected), it's awarded because it achieved something technically that wasn't done before.

I agree with radstar. There were MANY shots in the movie that I can't explain how could they've been shot with regular techniques. And they still look so real to be regarded CGI, like this one (http://www.inbinary.com/public/reloaded_flying_cam.avi) [1.63 MB]

why not? star wars episode 1 was nominated in 1999 and also episode 2 in 2002.

i think for best vfx goes

return of the king (winner)
matrix 2 + 3
pirates of the carribean
hulk

why pirates? simple: it had the best seamless integration of live action and cg i've seen so far. you can see it very good in the ending when sparrow and barbosa fight in the cave.

You nominated Return Of The King and gave it the award even before you see it? :) The trailer wasn't that long.

And by the way, as far as I know, Warner Brothers isn't sending The Matrix Reloaded for review. It failed to convince the Academy to regard both as one movie, so it will send only Revolutions in.

And...

1977 - Star Wars : A New Hope -- WINNER
1980 - The Empire Strikes Back -- WINNER
1983 - Return Of The Jedi -- WINNER
1999 - The Phantom Menace -- NOMINATED
2002 - Attack Of The Clones -- NOMINATED

It's not the movie name that gets nominated.
