Ain't It Cool News reports that funnyman Jack Black (SCHOOL OF ROCK) has been signed to play GREEN LANTERN in a Warner Bros. movie of the same name. "Jack Black has closed his deal. He will be playing Green Lantern in a film that has been described as a 'zany comedy version a la THE MASK,'" reports Moriarty, a.k.a Drew McWeeny, the site's west coast reporter. "All rights to the DC comic have been worked out as well, so you can expect to start hearing more about this project in the months ahead."

OH MY GOD!!! I have been dreaming of a Green Lantern movie ever since I was like old enough to look at comic books. As a matter of fact, the first comic book I ever looked at, was indeed a GL comic!!! I have been waiting forever for a Green Lantern animated series, or a full blown huge budget motion picture!!! The GL story could be done on a huge epic scale ala Star Wars...afterall, the GL are essentially cops/peace keepers/JEDI. :-) The potential for a serious live action mega hit is just endless!!! I've always seen a 6 hour mega trilogy in GL's theatrical future...as a precursor to a huge *** JUSTICE LEAGUE movie....though WB (the folks that bring you Batman with nipples and Catwoman the cheesy bondage whore akin to a porn flick)...have came up with Jack Black's Green Lantern movie...

Someone just freakin shoot me!!! What the hell is DC thinking of??? The new Batman flick and the new Superman movie might make up for this ultra shitty GL flick...but it would be cutting it really close.

I can't believe they'd go out and kill the GL franchise like that!!! Heck, if they're doing a GL movie...it needs to be about HAL JORDAN or ALAN SCOTT...not a "Guy Gardner" wannabe...like Jack Black would end up being. Besides, I hated GUY GARDNER!!! Damn, this movie is going to make Catwoman look really damn good...and that's saying alot!!!

As of right now, I hate WB almost as much as I hate Rick Berman and Brannon Braga for killing the Star Trek franchise!!!

I simply can't understand why they would do this. If they make a comedy it can not possibly gross as much as an action version. Green Lantern has a lot of potential and this seems like a total waste. I am very pissed off about this

Jack Black has shown that he has potential, and the casual movie-goer has no idea who Green Lantern is. And we've seen that most recent serious-comicbook-movies have not done very well: Daredevil, Hulk, Punisher, Hellboy

Maybe this is just the ticket.

Then again... maybe not.

I cannot imagine Jack Black in this role. He might provide some humorous scenes while experimenting with his powers, but as far as actually using them for anything closely resembling good, I just can't see it.
