Battlestar Galactica - New SCIFI series - Spoiler!

Learned thru the SCIFI message boards, that sky one of the UK is showing Battlestar Galactica already! Whether or not this is true remains to be seen (and verified - uk movie-list'ers?). But they did have episode gudies for the first four eps. Here it goes:

Source: Sky One: Battlestar Galactica

Episode 1: "33"

LEE ADAMA leads a group of Viper fighter pilots from the Galactica in a seemingly endless series of "jumps" that take them from one part of the universe to another. For 2 days, the vipers have been chaperoning civilian spaceships on these jumps in an effort to elude the CYLONS, the race of robots hell bent on destroying humanity. As is happening too often, the CYLONS show up earlier than expected and begin firing on their ships. President LAURA ROSLIN notes there are now fewer than 50,000 human beings alive; if they want to find a planet and regenerate the species, they need to get away from the enemy robots. The exhausted crew prepares for the next jump in 33 minutes.

Meanwhile, HELO, who has been stranded on the Cylon occupied Planet Caprica, wanders through the dangerous wilderness and is almost sniffed out by some Cylons, who step on land mines before they uncover him.

Back on the Galactica, Sharon Valeri & her new flight officer, CRASHDOWN, discuss the latest rumours that the Cylon robots have taken on a resemblance to human beings. Sharon is sceptical. Laura notes that the number of living humans are dropping; over 300 civilians and fighters have been lost during the last few jumps. Baltar voluntarily slips into another daydream involving Number Six who teases him. During a staff meeting on the ship, Baltar "wakes up" from his daydream when he hears a familiar name mentioned, Dr. Amarak. Baltar gets very nervous when he hears that the doctor has been trying to speak with President Roslin.

Elsewhere on the ship COLONEL TIGH and DUALLA, are briefing COMMANDER WILLIAM ADAMA on the last jumps. Tigh suggests the possibility that "sleeper agents," somewhere in their fleet, are sending out their destination coordinates before they jump, enabling the Cylons to be waiting to intercept them. Adama barely pays attention to this theory. He's very worried about the crew's sanity and ability to function due to exhaustion. He orders the ship doctor to pump them full of stimulants.

On Caprica, HELO is captured by Cylons, including Number Six.

The crew begins plans for the next jump when Dualla realizes that one civilian ship, the Olympic Vessel with 342 civilians onboard, remains unaccounted for. The crew discusses the strange disappearance of the vessel. This was the ship that contained Dr. Amarak.

Suddenly, the Olympic Vessel comes back into view, unharmed. Via radio, the Galactica crew asks the staff of the Vessel how they were not blown up by Cylons, but they don't know… On Galactica, Number Six tells Baltar the Olympic Vessel had been infiltrated by Cylons awhile ago; this is why they were not destroyed during the last attack.

Independently, the Galactica crew comes to the same conclusion; the Olympic is infected with Cylons and must be destroyed. Laura makes the sober decision to order the ship blown up. Kara, Lee and Sharon fire on the ship, destroying it. Lee has a heart-to-heart about the morality of this decision with his father. He's torn by what they did; Adama sees it as necessary business. Billy tells Laura that despite the fact that the ship was blown up, their population number has grown by one; a baby was born on he Rising Star ship.

HELO is almost killed by a group of Cylons, when at the last second Sharon appears and saves him.

Episode 2: "Water"

LT. SHARON VALESII awakens in the Galactica tool room; she's wet, dishevelled and her hands are covered in mysterious red stains. Next to her is her duffel bag and as she sorts through her belongings, she comes across a small-but-deadly explosive. Confused and nervous, Sharon attempts to return the explosive to the small arms locker at the other end of the ship. When she arrives there, she makes a startling discovery: six more explosive devices are missing.

Crewman BOXEY accuses Sharon of acting strangely and she gets defensive, further fuelling his suspicions. He picks her locker, searching through her belongings.

The crew is preparing for the arrival of the Colonial One spaceship and PRESIDENT LAURA ROSLIN who will give the Galactica crew a pep talk. While prepping for the landing, CAPTAIN LEE ADAMA is still wracked with guilt over the decision to blow up the Olympic Vessel and haunted by waking nightmares of their screaming faces. Lee tries to talk to his father, COMMANDER WILLIAM ADAMA, about his feelings, but Adama tells him to "live with it." Lee realizes that he is a very different man than his father.

Upon Laura's arrival, Adama gives her a detailed explanation of the ship's plan for the day: to supply a civilian vessel with water that the Galactica keeps stored onboard. The vessel will temporarily dock with the Galactica until it is fully supplied with some of the precious water.

Sharon goes to CHIEF GALEN TYROL (with whom she is having an affair) and tells him about finding the explosive in her duffel bag and her inability to account for the events of the night before. She's terrified that everyone will think that she stole the weapons. Tyrol believes that she's being set up and vows to investigate the mystery.

A major explosion interrupts the water transfer from the Galactica to the civilian vessel: the lines rupture and water begins to spill out into space, lost forever. Sharon, Tyrol, and CRASHDOWN are sent out to investigate the explosion in small vessels called raptors.

During their investigation, Tyrol discovers evidence that a series of explosives were set off, destroying the water supply. Tyrol briefs Adama, Lee, Laura, DR. BALTAR, LIEUTENANT GAETA and Tigh on his findings that the water supply was sabotaged. Adama says out loud what everyone has been thinking all along: "there's a Cylon aboard Galactica." Laura says that they must keep everything secret; despite the rumours. Baltar, still haunted by hallucinations of his Cylon lover, NUMBER SIX, is assigned the duty of screening crew members to sniff out the spy. Privately, Tigh tells Lee that Sharon and Tyrol are having an affair.

Sharon is sent out to look a water supply. During her flight, she discovers that somehow she has another explosive device with her with no idea how it got there.

As they fly around, Sharon gets a signal that her Raptor has located a planet with water. But she lies about it, radioing that she's coming up empty. After a few minutes, though, Sharon seems to be struggling with her lie; she squirms in her seat and fights internally to overpower whatever possesses her. Finally, she alerts Galactica she's located a planet with water. The ships celebrate the discovery of new water. When Sharon lands, she tells Tyrol that there is another explosive on her ship and she doesn't know it got there. He'll cover for her.

Lee bonds with President Laura over his remaining guilt and unease about the explosion of the Olympic Vessel. In Laura he finds the support and confidence he has been looking for in his father; "kindred spirits."

Tyrol walks in on Boxey holding Sharon's red-stained towel. Boxey tells Tyrol doesn't know where he got the towel, but Tyrol knows that it's Sharon's towel.

Episode 3: "Bastille Day"

The water shortage crisis continues to affect everyone. Colonel TIGH can no longer fight his need for alcohol to cope with his problems. He reports for duty to find encouraging news: TYROL and CALLY have found an ice moon with plenty of water beneath the surface. Tyrol estimates that they will need at least 1,000 men to drill for the water.

COMMANDER ADAMA and President LAURA ROSLIN discuss possibilities with LEE ADAMA and BILLY. Adama proposes that they draft a thousand prisoners from the jail ship the ASTRAL QUEEN to work on the ice moon. Laura is unsure, but Lee (now employed by Laura as a consultant) agrees with his father for once: the prisoners will, in all likelihood, be happy to get out of their cells. Laura insists they are given some credit for this work toward their eventual release.

Lee, Billy, Cally and DUALLA are sent to the Astral Queen to present the work offer to the prisoners. On board, they are shocked to learn that the prisoners are united behind one man: PETER ZAREK, a former, infamous freedom fighter with a violent reputation. 20 years ago, Zarek led the Sagittarius Uprising fighting for exploited workers. Zarek declines their offer.

Billy, Dually, Lee and Cally argue about Zarek. Though he was a freedom fighter, some see him as a terrorist as he was allegedly involved with bombings and willing to let some civilian casualties occur in the interest of his greater cause. But, they realize they have to negotiate through Zarek to get the prisoners to mine the water.

On Caprica, HELO and "SHARON" wander the city, obliviously watched from above by the Cylons: LEOBEN and NUMBER SIX.

As Lee meets with Peter Zarek in his cell, a prison guard named SEABORNE gives a signal that sets off a prisoner rebellion. Within a matter of moments, all the prisoners escape from their cells and take Lee, Cally, and Dualla and Billy hostage.

Adama confronts BALTAR - he asked the doctor to develop a Cylon detector many months ago and the doctor still hasn't shown him anything. Baltar is anxious about this questioning. Number Six shows up to manipulate the doctor into using Adam's request to try to secure a nuclear warhead. Adama tells Baltar he will get him the warhead.

In Zarek's cell, Zarek and Lee talk. Zarek contacts the Galactica and issues his demands: 1. the immediate resignation of President Laura Roslin, 2. free and open elections to choose a new leadership, and 3. a new government that represents all of the people.

Kara is appointed to lead a team of pilots on a rescue mission to shoot Zarek and free the hostages. She takes off with a blessing from Tigh, who usually dislikes Kara for her reckless nature and attitude.

Adama contacts Zarek to give him a final chance to give up. Zarek doesn't take it. Lee realizes that a violent shootout between the prisoners and the government is just what Zarek wants; it would be good for his cause of instituting a new government; the bloodbath will almost definitely claim one of Lee's men as casualties and that will look bad to everyone. Lee accuses Zarek of wanting to stay in the public eye after his notoriety has started to fade.

As Kara's team begins their invasion, chaos breaks out across the Astral Queen: a prisoner named MASON attacks Cally, but Lee pulls a gun and kills Mason. Lee then pulls his gun on Zarek. He tells him that if Zarek convinces the prisoners to help them mine the water, then Lee will see to it that the government holds a free election. Zarek agrees.

When he returns Gallactica, Adama and Laura question Lee's claim that they will hold an election. Lee says that, technically, Laura's term is about to run out anyways and he was just stating the truth - the government is due for another election.

Although Laura is angry in the meeting, privately she reveals her secret to Lee - that she is suffering from fairly advanced cancer.

Episode 4: "Act of Contrition"

After a tragic accident onboard the Galactica kills 20 pilots, Adama orders Kara to train some new fighter pilots. Kara, however, is still overwhelmed with guilt for allowing Adama's son Zak - whom she was madly in love with -- to pass her flight class many years ago, even though he wasn't competent to fly. On his first mission those years ago, Zak died in flight.

Lee, Kara, and Adama are in the process of planning a surprise party to honour Flat Top's 1000th landing as a viper pilot. As they prepare some decorations to greet him at the landing zone, a labourer working nearby accidentally discharges a drone missile, causing an enormous explosion.

Lee addresses the population of Galactica. The explosion has killed 20 pilots - more than half of the entire air force. As Lee speaks, Kara slips into a flashback to a talk with Adama about the funeral of his son Zak.

After Sgt. Hadrian confirms the accident was caused by a discharged drone, he confronts Sharon Tyrol and says that they still need to discuss the explosion that triggered the water crisis. Tyrol is nervous; she's still not sure how the missing explosives are linked to her.

Adama orders Kara to train new pilots. Kara's reluctant & becomes distressed. She slips into another flashback, where she tells Lee that the death of his brother Zak was her fault. She was Zak's flying instructor. He was not a good pilot, but after Kara fell in love with him, she let her feelings cloud her judgement and passed him. Shortly thereafter, he was killed in flight. The guilt has subsumed her ever since. But she has never told Adama the truth. Lee knows, but he also keeps it a secret.

President Laura visits Dr. Cottle, who tells her that her cancer is very advanced and offers various treatments. Laura wants to first try some "alternative treatments," specifically an herbal remedy called Chamala Extract. The doctor is deeply cynical.

Kara meets her new flight trainees, civilian volunteers with limited experience: COSTANZA (22), PERRY (25), and KATRAINE (29). They begin the training, but struggle to keep up with Kara's incredibly demanding lesson plan. At the end of the day, Kara fires all of the trainees, saying they would be dangerous behind the controls of a viper. Lee confronts Kara and accuses her of letting her guilt about Zak overpower her responsibility to train the new pilots.

On Cylon-occupied Caprica, Sharon-the-Cylon and Helo find an abandoned diner stocked with emergency supplies.

Adama doesn't understand why Kara fired all of the trainees. Lee lets it slip that she has guilt issues about Zak. Adama orders Kara to report to him at once. At first Kara is guarded and defensive with Adama but finally tells him the truth - she and Zak were engaged to be married, and she passed him in flight school even though she knew he wasn't capable. When he died, she blamed herself. Adama is livid and kicks Kara out.

Kara is back training the kids she had kicked out the day before. She seems more open to the idea now that she got her secret off of her chest. In the middle of a training exercise, though, Cylons discover the Galactica and begin an attack. Kara orders her trainees to fly their vipers back to the home base, and she takes off on her own to try to take on the Cyclons by herself. She manages to direct her trainees home safely, but then Kara is fired upon and hit.

I've seen the first 4 episodes.
Let me tell you this... this new series has certainly hit my top 5 list (see sig). It deserves to be a best series medal. One of the first fictional series that actually feels like a war show. Outstanding show. And most important... story continuation is outstanding. Charactor development is ...... WOW!!!! I hate waiting a week to watch each episode. The miniseries showed only little.

Stormwalker 12-10-2004 12:41 AM

where is the miniseries to download??

i have just watched the first four eps.. but cannot find the torrent link for the miniseries :S

Gaumont 12-10-2004 02:50 PM

yes very nice show. Great feel to it

Stormwalker 12-14-2004 07:36 PM

i have eventually found the miniseries and have watched up to episode 9... the best episode (most confusing) so far was the one where Number 6 appeared aboard Galactica... :D

Stormwalker 01-14-2005 01:42 AM

anyone got any theories on the ep i mentioned above?

Lafce 01-14-2005 03:51 AM

From what I hear it looks like it's a very good show. Haven't watch any episodes yet (saw some pics of Number Six, though :)), but will make an effort to find the first episodes and see how good it is. How many epsiodes does the 2003 mini-series have?

Kn'thrak 01-14-2005 07:47 AM

The miniseries is a 4 hour show that is split into 2 episodes.

I wait so much every week on how BSG continues. I won't say any spoilers but it is a fantastic piece of writing and directing. BSG is my top show among the 5 listed in my sig. The writing nails J.J. Abrams writing in suspense. And that last sentense was difficult to type :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

OK, someone tell me if this is correct: there is the 2003 mini (2 episodes) and now the new series that started in 2004 (11 episodes so far). I'm asking because I "found" the 1st episode from season 1 (I guess it's the 2004 series) and it started with: "Previosly on Battlestar Galactica...". That means I should watch the 2003 mini first, right?

Fed7haS 01-17-2005 05:46 PM

you are 100% right... and belive me the miniseries is Awsome :D

From Scifiwire:

Quote:

Ronald D. Moore, creator and executive producer of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica, told SCI FI Wire that he's already mapping out season two just as the first season begins its 13-episode run on Jan. 14. "The network has asked for backup scripts for the second season, so we're working on six scripts right now with the writing staff," Moore said in an interview at the TV networks' winter press tour in Universal City, Calif. "I'm deep into what the second season would be. The first season ends on ... multiple cliffhangers, ... and so it's a lot of resolving those cliffhangers."

Moore added, "Most of the things that we're doing in season two were at least begun in season one. A lot of the religious things that happened in the show in terms of the colonies and in terms of the Cylons. I think probably the big opportunity in season two that we didn't get in season one is to open up the Cylon world a little more. To see more of other Cylons. See how the society functions a little bit more. And give a sense of what that community is all about."

The first 13 episodes of Galactica, which have already wrapped production, pick up almost immediately where the 2003 miniseries left off. The ragtag fleet of human survivors, led by President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Cmdr. Adama (Edward James Olmos), are trying to hold things together while continuing to flee the Cylon menace. Moore said he's pleased with how the first season ended up. "The overall arc has to do with the relationship between Adama and Laura Roslin, the sort of transition of both of them from what you think is going to be their roles of the military hawk and the civilian dove. And starting to realize that actually ... she's a harder-line character than he is, and that he is the son, not of a long line of military men, but the son of a civil ... liberties attorney. And that he's actually very reticent to be her policeman, as he says in one of the episodes. And that by the end of the season, their conflict would come to a head."

Moore added that he felt that Galactica ended up having a lot to say about the current state of affairs in the real world. "The show is of its time," he said. "It is a show that is about people dealing in a post-apocalyptic world and dealing with the fallout from that and dealing with issues of war and peace and terrorism and security and freedom. And it's set in a military world. So no matter what we did, in a certain sense, it was bound to resonate. And just as we got further into the show, it just became apparent that that was something that the show was comfortable doing and that I wanted to do. I wanted to comment on things that were going on around us. I wanted the show to be thought-provoking. I wanted the show to provoke people. I wanted the show to make people think about the world that they live in."
