According to Harry Knowles' website Ain'titcool.com, it says that Mel is currently writing the script to the VERY long-awaited sequel to the original spoof "Spaceballs - The Movie" in 1986.

I absolutely loved this movie and I hope it happens...but they have a major problem - Will they replace Barf with a new character as John Candy passed away in 1994. I hope the other actors reunite. Mel Brooks has said he wants to get back into his "Yogurt" gear once again. Bill "Lone Star" Pullman is still going and Rick "Lord Dark Helmet" Moranis is in the movie industry still...but what happened to Daphne "Princess Vespa" Zuniga? I had a huge crush on her when I saw this, I wonder if this sequel will happen...
