    Fantastic Four Movie News

I'm kinda interested in this movie, and there seems to be a lot of threads about it, so I'll post what news (and encourage others to do so) under this thread.

    First the Cast:

    Mr Fantastic - Ioan Gruffud
Most Recent Big thiing: King Arthur (as Lancelot)

The Invisible Wowan - Jessica Alba
Most Recent Big Thing: Dark Angel TV Series
    --See the following thread
--Alba Talks about the role with Scifiwire

    Alba Couldn't Resist Four

Jessica Alba—who will play Invisible Girl Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie—told SCI FI Wire that she was concerned about the reaction of the fans when she was cast, but she couldn't pass on the chance to play the iconic character. "Honestly, I was worried," she said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego last weekend. "But at the end of the day, when this opportunity came, I couldn't say no. I feel I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I turned this movie down, because it's such a great story. And I'm going to work my a-- off and hopefully people will be pleased."

Alba (Dark Angel) added that the family aspect of the story appealed to her, as well as the nurturing nature of her character. "She just wants everybody to be OK," she said. "And it seems like when she's trying to do that, when everyone's so caught up in their problems, that's when she disappears. So it's very metaphorical. I love it. I'm not that familiar with the comic books. I read the script, and it's just great, and it's about family, and it's so hopeful."

Although filming doesn't start until next month, Alba has already gotten a glimpse of the skin-tight outfit she and her fellow cast members—which include Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as Ben Grimm/The Thing and Ioan Gruffudd (King Arthur) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic—will be wearing. "I've tried mine on," she said. "And the zippers are on the inside. I was so scared. [The costumer] had to use a tool. ... The costumes are very cool. They are spandex, and we have gloves and boots ... and fours on our chests."
    The Thing - Michael Chicklis

Chicklis on playing Grimm: From Scifiwire
Michael Chiklis—who will play Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, in the latest comic-book-to-film adaptation, Fantastic Four—told SCI FI Wire that he took the role based on assurances from the producers that his character would not be computer-generated. "I did not want to do this if Ben Grimm was going to be a CGI [character]," Chiklis said in an interview during Comic-Con International in San Diego over the weekend. "If he was going to be done in the way that the Hulk was done, then I felt that I would be wasted. And I was assured from the get-go that that wasn’t going to be the case. And I was thrilled."

Chiklis, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role of Vic Mackey on the FX TV series The Shield, said there are some common traits among the characters he plays, which relate to his own personality. "I'm a thug that you want to hug," he joked. "[Ben] is a guy who can be very scary and also be really likable and downright cuddly. So, yeah, there's kind of through line in that way. But his problems ... are a lot different than Vic Mackey or other characters I've played. So there are broad-stroke similarities and some specific differences."

A fan of the Fantastic Four comic book from an early age, Chiklis says he is eager to begin filming and see how the script will be realized by director Tim Story (Barbershop). "It's one of those things as an actor ... where you read the script, and you go, 'Oh, cool, honey, I get to do this! You've got to read this!'" Chiklis said. "I think we're all hungry to get out there and see a lot of the nuts-and-bolts aspects of this movie: how we're going to achieve certain things. It's one thing when you read it in script form and you see it in your mind's eye, but then you go, like, 'How are we going to do that?'" Fantastic Four begins filming in Vancouver, B.C., in August.
    Dr. Doom - Julian McMahon
Most recent Big Thing - Charmed TV Series (Cole Turner - Alyssa Milano's love interest)

    The Crew

    Director - Tim Story
    Barbershop (2002)
    Taxi (2004)

Writers - Michael France (Punisher), Mark Frost (Twin Peaks), Simon Kinberg (XXX 2)

He should have took the job on assurances that the producers would release the film.

Regardless, it is probably a better time today to create such a film though. Because of computers and such

Ioan Gruffudd talks with scifiwire about Mr. Fantastic -

Ioan Gruffudd—who will play Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie—told SCI FI Wire that he wasn't familiar with the comic book on which the film is based, but was attracted to the characters and their unique situation when he read the script. "I think the beginning of the story is us as real people, our friendship," Gruffudd said in an interview. "They are real people. You can associate with them. They're just in this incredible situation."

Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced YO-an GRIF-fith) is part of a cast that includes Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as the Thing, Jessica Alba (Dark Angel) as the Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as the Human Torch and Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) as Dr. Doom. Gruffudd said that he believes the filmmakers were looking for a certain quality when they cast the roles. "I'm a mathematical genius," he joked. Then, he added, "We're sort of down-to-earth people, and I think that's the main attraction of these characters."

Gruffudd, who last appeared as Lancelot in King Arthur, is currently preparing for the film, which begins shooting in Vancouver, B.C., this month, by familiarizing himself with the comic books and learning all of the technical jargon he'll have to know as the brainy team leader. "[There's] a lot of that," he said. "Which I will make quite interesting for you all."

Chris Evans (Cellular) talks about his upcoming role as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four

    Source: Scifiwire

    Evans Cruises Into Four

Chris Evans, star of the upcoming comic-book film Fantastic Four, told SCI FI Wire that he modeled his character, Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, on one of Tom Cruise's most famous movies. "I went to Top Gun," Evans said in an interview. "A lot of these guys are pretty cocky hotshots when they're in the cockpit doing their business, but outside of the cockpit these guys have fun, and they're crude, and they have an arrogance about them. That, I think, every single pilot in Top Gun embodies."

Evans said that he combined the elements of skill and arrogance in his portrayal of Storm. "I think that inspires some arrogance in these guys, but a lot of these pilots who do pilot, whether it's fighter pilots or space, are doing high-risk jobs that a very small percentage of people in this world can do, and they know it," Evans said. "Johnny Storm is a kind of a hotshot, a little arrogant, likes to have fun, but he's intelligent."

In Fantastic Four, which is based on the Marvel Comics series, Evans is part of a cast that includes Michael Chiklis (Ben Grimm/The Thing), Ioan Gruffudd (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) and Jessica Alba (Sue Storm/the Invisible Girl).

Evans added that the movie marks his first foray into special-effects and stunt work. "They’ve already got me fitted with that [wire] harness, that really comfortable harness that fits so nicely," Evans said sarcastically. "It hurts, man. It rips your leg hairs out. But it's all new terrain for me, this high-tech stuff, so it's fun and it’s all learning experience."

Evans said that his tranformation from Johnny Storm into the Human Torch will be created purely through computer graphics, which is an entirely new experience for him. "I don’t think they’re going to actually set me on fire," he said. "I think it's going to be mostly CGI. I don't think we're ever going to use any real fire; it will all be green screen, stuff that I don't know anything about." Fantastic Four is about to begin production in Vancouver, B.C., with a release slated for July 1, 2005.
Interesting that Chiklis (the thing) wanted no CGI, and Evans is gonna be mostly CGI

Fantastic Four release date to pit movie against War of the Worlds

    Source: Scifiwire

Fox's Fantastic Four and Paramount's War of the Worlds could face off in the same week next summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Four, based on the Marvel Comics series, is eyeing an opening on July 1, 2005, the start of the July 4 holiday weekend.

But War of the Worlds, from Steven Spielberg and based on H.G. Wells' classic SF novel, may open on the previous Wednesday, June 29. And so far, neither studio is backing down, the trade paper reported.

Fox's Four has already withstood a similar challenge from Paramount, when Paramount shuffled the opening dates for Mission: Impossible 3 due to production issues.
    Also a note:

Entertainment Tonight correspondent Maria Menounos will play a nurse and the romantic interest of Chris Evans' Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, which is currently shooting in Vancouver, B.C., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first Pic of the Thing!

oh no.......!!! This can't be what they have in mind for the Thing! there has to be more to the costume then this, if it remains like this this could lead to the downfall of Marvel Movies and it would revert them back to the direct to video crappiness!!

Well I can see the somewhat displeasure in the posts after the pic and I must agree what is in the pic does not sly with me either. It in my opinion looks nothing like The Thing with in the Fantasic Four, now I know being that this is not a comic book and a live action film some things will have to be changes slightly to make them fit into a "real life" type of situation but come on people this is going a stept to far I mean even The Thing from the craptacular unreleased 1994 Fantasic Four Movie looked like the Thing this at the moment does not. On the other hand Jedi Master could be right because many from other sites were this pic is posted say it could be part of a transformation scene were Ben Grimm mutates in to The Thing but at the moment this is all we have and will have to wait for more better pics but if this is the final film version of The Thing I'm afraid to see what Doctor Doom will look like
