    LOL. "5 Aces"... Classic.

I should have mentioned in the "All for the Winner" thread that that movie was a huge success in the Hong Kong box office when it came out, it made Stephen Chow, who had already been a sensation playing comedic roles in television soapies, an instant super-moviestar. Locally most of his movies were blockbusters throughout the 90s (with a few flops in the mid-90s cos people got a bit used to his offerings). But it wasn't until Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle (both heavily feature CGIs) when his comedy finally got some international recognition.

And this is such a weird movie - a "sequel" to all gambling-themed movies: A sort of follow-up of "God of Gamblers" (utilising Andy Lau's character minus Chow Yun-Fat's title character) and borrowing Stephen Chow's character (and Ng Man Tat's character) from "All for the Winners". The Korean poster actually said it is the second sequel of "Casino Raiders" (which is not)! But in fact this is more like a stand-alone comedy.

Of course Stephen Chow's "Saint of Gambler" character also appears in "God of Gamblers III: Back to Shanghai" (co-starring Gong Li!) and made a cameo in the movie "The Top Bet" (starring Anita Mui).

Oddly enough, the actual sequel to the original "God of Gamblers" (The God of Gamblers' Return), which Chow Yun-Fat is in, does not feature Stephen Chow.

Rumour has it that Chow Yun-Fat has been avoiding to appear in the same movie with Stephen Chow, because CYF, who also starred in some comedies which did very well locally before being typecasted as a gunman, does not wish to be compared with Stephen Chow in terms of their acting skills. And since Stephen Chow now directs his own movies (and word of mouths is that he can be a very demanding director), him collaborating with CYF is even more unlikely.
