Talking Quantum Of Solace (James Bond 22, 2008)

Next James Bond movie after Casino Royale will start (I think it's for the first time in Bond history) summer season in 2008!!! Release date - 2nd May 2008.

And this is news about director...

Michell spying helm for next Bond outing

As the world awaits the debut of Daniel Craig as the latest Agent 007, the producers of "Casino Royale" are busy making plans for the next chapter in the James Bond franchise.

U.K.-based helmer Roger Michell is in negotiations to direct the follow-up to "Casino Royale," which has a working title of "Bond 22."

Columbia Pictures, which is producing "Casino Royale" and "Bond 22" alongside MGM, declined comment. And while plot details for "Bond 22" remain sketchy, sources say the film is based on an original idea from Bond producer Michael Wilson. Eon Prods. is looking for a writer to adapt.

Michell and Craig are no strangers, having teamed on the 2004 drama "Enduring Love."

Michell's helming credits also include the Ben Affleck-Samuel L. Jackson vehicle "Changing Lanes" and the Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant romantic comedy hit "Notting Hill."

I think they should wait and see what 21 does and whether or not the world still wants more Bond.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

I totally agree, personally I think James Bond is done and has been done for a while. Now granted I'm not a big James Bond fan but still I have seen basically all the films and yet I find the series rather uninteresting. I believe that everything has a certian shelf life and due to changing times and many factors such as that what seemed popular at one point doesn't hold true today and I think James Bond is one of those things that is passed its expiration date.

I use to like Bond up until the last few films. Which is odd because I thought that Bronson was a kick-a$$ Bond. I think for me they became a little too unrealistic and hardly believable especially Die Another Day.

I believe there is a place for a solid spy franchise and I think that's the Bourne series. However I don't think they'll make any more after Ultimatum.

Here's hoping that they are going in a new direction with Craig as Bond and return the franchise to something respectable.

yes I would have to agree with that on some level as for me I just found that James Bond movies seem all the same like they were just remaking the same ideas over and over again like "uh oh, that wacky terrorist is at it again! he seems to have stolen nuclear/biological weapons" or "he has a zany yet very complex plan to take over the world and/or write his name on the moon"

Now I believe there is a place for a solid spy franchise but I don't know if it is the Bourne series. I have only seen The Bourne Identity and found it somewhat to predictable at times.

Now me personally I enjoyed xXx the first one was full of awesome with a side order of cool. Xander Cage was just this guy they plucked off the street. He has no special training he's not a military guy just your standard adrenaline junkie with no fear and a lousy attitude and he is pulled into this "secret agent" world whether he likes it or not. This movie had everything you ever wanted! loud action, crazy stunts, guns, cars, women, humor and yes even heart. Also Xander Cage seemed like he was actually do something not sitting at some card table in a tuxedo yabbering on about how he likes his martinis to some woman named Octopussy or pussy galore or shaved pussy or whatever (names that have pussy in them it must be that dry british wit ) anyway..
The only failing of xXx was its sequel entitled "State of the Union" it seemed to fall short of the orginal and seemed to be made more for a "youth/family audience" unlike the first film.

Neal Purvis And Robert Wade Discuss 'Bond 22' Details

    Better... closer... super!

    Watch out! Spoilers possible!

The 'Risico' rumour, Vesper's Algerian boyfriend, shooting timetable, Q and Moneypenny...

With Casino Royale approaching the end of its astonishing run at the worldwide box office, more and more details and rumours are being revealed about the upcoming Bond 22, due for release in November 2008.

In an interview on The Trades, screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (who worked on Casino Royale, Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough) discussed the reception to Daniel Craig’s first James Bond film and revealed some details on Bond 22.

While discussing the many BAFTA nominations for Casino Royale, Purvis said: ‘We were very surprised by the nominations because it takes something for people to think of Casino Royale as just a good film and not a Bond film.’

‘Being nominated is a huge leap forward for a Bond movie,’ added Wade.

Comparing Bond to Craig’s reception with the press, Wade said: ‘Bond’s sort of struggling against the odds. What’s heroic and affecting about him is that he keeps going, even when everything is against him. So, in a way, it’s kind of like that’s what Daniel did in real life.’

The absense of Q and Miss Moneypenny from Casino Royale sparked much discussion amongst 007 fans. Wade commented on this, saying: ‘Some people think they should be there and some people know that they shouldn’t be there. With the way Casino Royale ends, you know there’s still unfinished business for Bond. He may say, “The name’s Bond, James Bond,” but there’s still a lot of stuff churning up inside him. So, if you’re going to explore that, and we’ve got this great actor to do that with, what you don’t want to do is suddenly clamp it down with all these familiar elements that keep your focus off him. He’s the great asset.’

According to Purvis, Moneypenny would be the easier of the two to incorporate. ‘Q presents more problems. People have all got gadgets now. Other films have lots of gadgets as well… The idea of Q coming back, for the moment, it’s just not a high priority.’

In mid-December, The Sun started a rumour that Ian Fleming’s short story Risico would provide the title and plot basis for Bond 22. ‘That’s not the case,’ said Wade. However, when asked about whether or not Vesper Lynd’s Algerian boyfriend would appear as one of the film’s villains, he simply said ‘I can’t comment.’

Finally, speaking on the timetable for Bond 22, Wade said: ‘The idea is for the movie to start shooting at the beginning of next year. It would be nice to have the draft next week (laughing). The sooner the better. It’s not an easy thing to do, because the bar was raised with the last picture, so we have to raise our game again.’

Mathieu Amalric (IMDB) will play a villain in "Bond 22".

    James Bond's Next Villain Revealed

Daniel Craig had better look out. I’m told that Mathieu Amalric, the probable Oscar nominee from Miramax’s “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” is James Bond’s next villain. That was the word Thursday at a lunch for “Diving Bell" director Julian Schnabel and Amalric.

Even though sources insist it’s true, Amalric would neither confirm nor deny. Since his “Diving Bell” character communicates through blinking, we thought of asking him to do just that — one for yes, two for no — but thought better of it. Anyway, expect a formal announcement shortly. This is a done deal.

For the untitled Bond movie’s director Marc Forster, Amalric is a brilliant choice. He’s a youthful looking 42-year-old overnight sensation, an independent French film director who only started seriously acting in films at age 30 and has suddenly been thrust into a hot career.

So what does he want to do? “I want to direct my next film,” he told me over lunch at Brasserie Ruhlmann in Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Of course, it was hard to finish a conversation with Mathieu (pronounced Matthew) because women, one after another, wanted to come over and “just say hello.” Then, you know, they don’t leave.

“It’s like a dream,” Almaric said to me between visitations.

So who is this guy? Mathieu Amalric’s got a very French father who lives in Corsica with his second wife, and a Polish-Jewish-French mother in Paris.

He looks a little bit like a young Roman Polanski, which makes sense because the mother comes from the same village as "The Pianist" director.

And even more ties: Polanski’s beautiful wife, Emanuelle Seigner, plays Amalric’s ex in “Diving Bell.” (The film also features the sensational Marie-Josee Croze.)

He got the part of French Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby thanks to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who produced Steven Spielberg’s “Munich.” If you remember, Amalric was the breakout actor from that movie. He played the rich, young French arms dealer who worked with his father (Michael Lonsdale) from their chateau. When Schnabel was looking for an actor to play the part of Bauby, who was rendered paralyzed from a stroke but still managed to write a book, Kennedy and Marshall suggested Amalric.

Let me say this: if Mathieu Amalric isn’t nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, then something is really wrong. His performance is nothing less that stunning, a miracle. He belongs in a group with John Cusack (“Grace Is Gone”), Johnny Depp (“Sweeney Todd”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Savages”) and Daniel Day-Lewis (“There Will Be Blood”). As Bauby he manages to take what could have been maudlin and makes it full of life.

Don’t worry that he’s French. This is no Roberto Benigni. Even though “Diving Bell” is told mostly in French, the actor’s English is just fine. He lived in Washington, D.C., from ages 5-8 because his father was a journalist on assignment. Mathieu is already in demand from the TV talk shows for interviews. And all this is a little strange for him.

“The Oscars are a big deal?” he asked at lunch. “It will help the film?”

    He is not kidding.

“Diving Bell and the Butterfly” is not a depressing movie, by the way. It’s life affirming, and gorgeously crafted by director and famed artist Julian Schnabel.

Ronald Harwood, who won the Oscar for “The Pianist” and also wrote “Being Julia” and “The Dresser,” did the screenplay. They all deserve nominations. And if they don’t get them, well, then, when Amalric is schooled in James Bond he can threaten to blow up the Academy!

ComingSoon got the chance to speak to Daniel Craig about the status of the upcoming "Casino Royale" sequel. According to Craig, the new film will pick up right after "Royale" ends. "That's the plan," he said.

Earlier, it was rumored that Craig wanted more humor in the James Bond films, stating: "They [the producers] just want more gags. The next one's going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore style gags. They're all great names – but that's the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads."

Now, Craig says that gag-style jokes are not his preference. "I don't remember saying that, but if I did, I'm not going to shy away from the fact that occasionally there should be humor," Craig explained. "I just don't like gags. I don't like written gags. That's not the way I've ever liked working and I don't think that's funny myself."

As far as the writers strike affecting production, he said not to worry. "We'd basically have to start now. The SAG strike starts in July. The writers' strike doesn't affect us because we have a script. As it stands at the moment, it doesn't affect us."

it's Gemma Arterton, not Gemma Atkinson....

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2605345/

    totally 2 different actresses.

Arterton is in the new St. Trinian's movie with Bond Girl Caterina Murino (from Casino Royale)
