    DiCaprio is Alexander the Great

The Toronto Sun has confirmed with producer Dino De Laurentiis that Leonardo DiCaprio has signed to star in the Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) Alexander the Great epic, written by Ted Tally (Silence Of The Lambs). The trade adds that Martin Scorsese is co-producing the film - which is interesting because he was making his own Alexander pic earlier.

"We have the full support of the King of Morocco," De Laurentiis said. "They give us 5,000 soldiers and 1,000 horses. It will be a very long movie to film ... you get together 5,000 extras, you need six months training just for them." De Laurentiis and Luhrmann have agreed to build a major movie studio in Morocco.

Alexander, who lived from 356 to 323 B.C., conquered the known world by the age of 25 with an army of 30,000. "The highest ideal in the Greek world is achieving undying fame," said Tally, "and he was worshipped as a god for 1,500 years after his death."

Well, they could go all out and make the movie really violent and gory. It would be perfect in the battle scenes. That might make me go see it, and try to stand Leo Dic.
When you got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.

Too bad that ppl don't know the history to realize that Alexander was not from Greece, but from ancient Macedonia (that's not my country). He was born in ancient Macedonia and in fact the first country he conquered was Greece!

Then he found a greek princess to marry in order to strenghten the power over the greeks and also ordered to hunderds of his soldiers (or maybe it was a thousand, don't remember exactly) to find nice greek chicks and organized a mass wedding. Good thinking :big grin:

BTW I don't think that Alexandar was in the first battle lines, so if they make it right you won't see DeCaprio fighting

Actually, he was bisexual. What did you expect from a man who had everything?

there will definitely be a race now for the release date... the runner-up and the third one will not earn as much as the winner

That sounds logical, but It may not be true... look at Deep Impact. It was released 2 months before Armageddon... What made more money?

I was surprised he was even going to be in another movie.

I thought for sure his days were over.
