LAST DAY - Day 8 - In America (Working Title), Punch-Drunk Love

    Day Eight

In America (Working Title), Jim Sheridan

Note: "In America" is currently the working title of the film, it may change when it is released theatrically.

Plot Outline: The film is loosely based on Sheridan's life story, and tells the tale of Johnny and Sarah, who emigrate, with their two young daughters, from Ireland to New York City so that Johnny can pursue his dream of becoming an actor. They wind up living in a run-down apartment but, using their resourcefulness, resolve to make the very most of their new life. Sheridan has described the film as a romance about starting over.

Notes: Absolutely wonderful, a fantastic film!! Everything was great: the acting, directing, score, etc... One of the best films we've seen in a while. At times funny and very touching. Watch for great performances from real-life sisters Emma and Sarah Bolger. They were at the screening and received a standing ovation.

Our #1 pick from this year's festival.

Director Jim Sheridan, Paddy Considine, Sarah and Emma Bolger.

    Punch-Drunk Love, Paul Thomas Andersen

Plot Outline: Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) is a small business owner with seven sisters whose abuse has kept him alone and unable to fall in love. When a harmonium and a mysterious woman (Emily Watson) enter his life, his romantic journey begins.

Notes: A quirky and unique romantic comedy, this movie is very much a PTA film with his original use of art direction and music/score. Sandler's performance isn't really the acting stretch we were led to believe, it's more of a good film written to Sandler's strenghts. I can't wait to see this one again.

A great way to end a great festival.
