    GameStop not getting enough PS3s to fill preorders

    Last month, retailer GameStop began accepting "limited" preorders for the PlayStation 3, asking customers to put down $100 in advance for the system, with a modest expectation of eight units per store in most cases. Now it appears the largest gaming specialty chain in North America won't be receiving even that many systems.

    A GameStop representative told GameSpot today that the company received launch allocation numbers from Sony, and that it won't be able to fill its existing PS3 preorders. The representative declined to comment on how many systems GameStop expected to receive, or how short of that figure the company's share of systems would be.

    "We are beginning to notify our customers that our initial shipment of PS3 systems will not be what we expected," the representative said. "As this is not an ideal situation, we are asking employees to wait to purchase systems until the second shipment. We are anticipating having systems to cover reservations before Christmas."

    For launch day, preorders will be filled in the order they were received, and those who had a preorder but are denied a system on day one will receive something for their troubles. GameStop will give those unfortunate customers (as well as unfortunate employees) a free used game or DVD valued at $19.99 or less when they eventually wind up purchasing the system.

    Those who reserved a system won't need to wait long to find out if they can expect a system on launch day. Starting tomorrow, customers who preordered a PS3 will be contacted personally by phone and updated on the status of their reservation, the rep said.
    And while it might be a nonissue considering the clamor for consumers to get their hands on the coveted systems, GameStop is also asking anyone with a confirmed preorder to pick their systems up by Saturday evening.

    it's the same verse and song everytime a new game system is launched;

    this happened last year with the XBox 360.

    I only had 10 XBox 360 per each store on launch day.

    Then we didn't get anymore for 3 weeks and when we did, we got 6!!

    We just got a shipment of PS 3 in the store today and they are under lock and key in a safe place until Friday and I can tell you already they won't be enough to meet all the pre-orders we had!!

    People will be camping out overnight Thursday to Friday at my stores to be the first to get their hands on a PS 3 when the stores opens in the morning and many of them will be disappointed;

    same thing happened last year!!

    There were a couple of dozens people at each store who spent the night in the parking lot just to be the first to get a Xbox 360 and only 10 of them got lucky!!

    Happy Holidays!!

    Exclamation

    There are people camped out outside my stores since this afternoon waiting for the PS 3 to go on sale tomorrow morning at 8 am.

    I just found out that some of the Best Buy and other stores across the country like Wal Mart will put the PS 3 on sale at 12:01 am Friday.

    I just saw this:

    I am tempted to take my entire inventory and see it on EBay and make 5 to 7 times the profit!!

    wow EBay is getting tough:

    I think I am gonna go to buy X-Box. I never was that kinda guy who still plays some games, but XB seems like good buy (I´ll wait if the HDDVD will b included in package, am sure time will come). I´ve read that external HD DVD works even under XP and VISTA!!!!! so its going to be like buying player and console at once....still aint sure bout PS3, I just am so much disapointed that Sony has weakened its procesor power, so now its almost the same like XB. Besides XB has much more games available and good stuff is going to come more.
    And PS3? We have to wait 6 more months for it here. Screw Sony, they fracked this up

    things are starting to get ugly!!

    New Yorkers aren't the only ones getting robbed as they stand in line for a PlayStation 3. In Massachusetts, two "thugs" robbed a line of PS3 cameras at gunpoint Friday night. When one 21-year-old line-stander tried to fight back, the dudes shot him in the chest and shoulder.

    The guy's in stable condition, but the masked gunmen are still on the loose, and are expected to pen a book in
    The PlayStation 3 Mayhem reached UCLA-like proportions last night, as a Best Buy manager announced to 50 people that only 35 PS3 units were available. Ruh roh.

    The crowd then rushed the entrance, which caused the manager to pull down the shutters and barricade himself in. Police on the scene labeled the crowd an "unlawful gathering", then used batons on people who were being uncooperative. To those baton-ed: better that than having to play through NBA 07 or Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire.
