I used to live in Arkansas, and I can vouch that there is a place called Bald Knob . There's also places called Goobertown, AR, Oil Trough, AR, and Fifty Six. From what I heard, it got it's name from the man that discovered it. He had fifty six cents in his pocket when he got there.

And last but not least, there is a town called Weiner. That's no joke.

As for Michigan, besides a town called Hell, there is also a town called Paradise, and the population of Paradise is bigger than that of Hell.

Hell is a great name for a city. Someone ask you where you from, you tell them: I'm from Hell...

I have a friend who went to Hell, Michigan in the winter. She literally saw Hell frozen over.

One of my favorites has always been "Boca Raton" in Florida, which means "Rat's Mouth" in Spanish.

In a much milder name, I used to live in a town called "Correct". (Actually, "town" may be giving it too much credit, but still....)

Personally, I don't agree with the inclusion of the two New Zealand cities. If you follow that logic, how many curious native names can you find in English speaking countries?

Another thing about cuious town names are those American cities called following European cities or even capitals: Antwerp, Paris or New Paris, Berlin or New Berlin, Moscow, Prague or New Prague, Budapest, Athens or New Athens, Amsterdam, Lisbon or New Lisbon, Brussels, Dublin, Stockholm, and Rome, between others.
