Kilmer Replaces Arnett as KITT in Knight Rider
A carmaker conflict has caused NBC to hire Val Kilmer to replace Will Arnett as the voice of KITT on its "Knight Rider" revival, reports Variety.
Arnett ("Arrested Development") had already completed his part for the pilot, which is slated to debut on NBC on Sunday, February 17 at 9/8c. Producers Doug Liman, Dave Bartis and Dave Andron -- along with the network and studio -- were all fine with his performance.
For the better part of a decade, however, Arnett has done voice-over work for General Motors -- as the voice of GMC Trucks. NBC's new "Knight," however, is "played" by a Ford Mustang.
Not surprisingly, when GM found out about the Ford connection, it asked Arnett to pull out.
"I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new 'Knight Rider' movie," Arnett said. "However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project."

what a Crock of BEEP;
it's a TV show, not a car commercial and is there a clause in Arnett's past GM Commercials contract that he cannot star in a TV show or movie featuring non-GM vehicles?
I can see one where he cannot do voice over for non-GM TV commercials but I don't think they will see that far ahead and have a clause in there for TV shows!!

I think this is awesome ... I like Val Kilmer, I'm definitely looking forward to this ...

eh, dont know him nor his voice, so no love loss. personally, i would like to see William Daniels (the original voice for KITT) either do the voice or at least make an appearance. he made KITT.

I'm a little confused... Is this going to be a series, or was this a one-time only movie? I thought it was supposed to kick off a new TV series, but I don't see any information anywhere about anything other than this movie.

The original idea was to see how well it did and what everyones thought's about it. From what I've read on other sites it seems to be about 50/50 right now.
Plus if you missed any or all of it is is online at NBC now.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I taped it last night, but there was something else my wife wanted to watch in that same timeslot, and I haven't been home long enough today to watch it. And with The Sarah Connor Chronicles coming up in a bit, I probably won't have time tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Knight Rider given greenlight for a weekly series by NBC
Recently NBC aired a TV movie special of the new Knight Rider show; however it was not sure if NBC was ever to commission a weekly series. NBC must have come under a lot of pressure from viewers who enjoyed the TV special as it now looks as though NBC will give the Knight Rider a weekly series.
Although the movie was not good, maybe because the car could act better than the actors, it had a plot that was left open for an ongoing series. NBC confirmed that the ratings were just about good enough to commission a new series. According to sources Knight Rider might get a Friday night timeslot.

Here is an exclusive interview with Gary Scott Thomspon. Mr Thompson is best known for the blockbuster Fast and the Furious and Executive Producer of Las Vegas for NBC (which recently ended its run) is in the process of hiring writers. Doug Liman and David Bartis will stay on as Executive Producers. Writer David Andron will stay on as Consulting Producer.
From the Hollywood Reporter:
Thompson will work on the show under a new two-year deal he has inked with "Rider" producer Universal Media Studios.
Thompson is joined by "Las Vegas" exec producer Matt Pyken on "Rider," a sequel to the 1980s series. The two will serve as exec producers alongside Dave Bartis and Doug Liman, who exec produced the series' two-hour backdoor pilot that aired in February. The pilot's writer, Dave Andron, will serve as a consulting producer.
The interview is somewhat lengthy so I will just post the link to the page.
