30658.exe VIRUS/SPYWARE/TROJAN !!
My PC was off all day today and when I got home and booted up around 7 pm, all I did was check my email, look at Lara Croft Online, Movie List and a couple of favorite websites and go to Microsoft Messenger.
I left the PC on and still log into Messenger to go kiss the girls goodnight, when I got back I got exactly this:
http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question...7215923AAdLr1c
I did a full norton and Spy sweeper scan and it didn't find anything.
But under CTRL ALT DEL there was a 30658.exe showing in processes
and when I told it to End Process, it appeared again, sometime appearing 4 times at the same time in processes.
I downloaded and ran Hijack this and didn't find it;
I then downloaded and ran SPybot and it found it and killed it.
I don't know where I got it - it wasn't doing that before I shut down the PC to go to work at noon today.
So be careful!!

Did Spybot give you any information about it, or did you check? I don't see anything about it online from my quick searches, but I didn't spend a whole lot of time.
Of course, as an Ubuntu Linux user at home, any .exe files will automatically not work, so I am safe from things like that. But I won't bother with pushing Linux on you.
Still, you might want to be careful and keep an eye open for it. I had a problem with a virus at work a while back (on a WinXP Pro machine). It was a bear trying to get cleaned off, and then exactly 30 days later, it was back again. Apparently, it was leaving either a back door open or leaving enough of itself behind that it allowed the full virus back on in a month. I did this three times before deciding to wipe the harddrive and reinstall everything from scratch (although I threatened to install Linux instead). It took me hours to reinstall everything, but we haven't had a problem with that virus since.

I have Norton with the latest Definition Updates and it didn't detect it;
not even after I did a full scan of all my hard drives!!
like I said, I had to download Spybot (which was free) to get rid of it!!
So why am I paying for Norton?
Oh I was so much in a hurry to get rid of it, I didn't even tell Spybot to give me more info!!

Norton is a very simple (n resource hungry) system which has to wait for updates online to detect new viruses. ITs a suckers (or noob) tool! Only good thing about it is that it can clean up or PC quite well.
