just came back from nyc and saw the 16 mins...gotta say that it looked amazing....would obviously have to see the whole movie for the whole storytelling experience...but i have to say don't worry about the effects and the 3d....it was great...i saw potter 6 in imax 3d a couple days ago and avatar's 3d is so much better...the only way to explain it was that when i saw potter it def felt like stuff was just sticking out in front of me....but with avatar...i definitely felt like i was looking into a whole world of depth...the 3d was great in portraying the foreground, mid-ground, and background...if anyone else saw the 16 mins of footage i would love to hear what everyone else thought....

    Cast:
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald.

    The Film

"Avatar" is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than ten years in the making, "Avatar" marks Cameron's return to feature directing since helming 1997's "Titanic," the highest grossing film of all time and winner of eleven Oscars® including Best Picture. WETA Digital, renowned for its work in "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and "King Kong," will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

It's good to know that the 3D adds something to the cinema experience. I was kind of resistant to 3D until I saw UP in 3D and I liked what I saw. But I thought at times it didn't quite work. Maybe Cameron will nail the whole 3D thing with avatar. From the sounds of j7wild and ravenx5246, it sounds like Cameron might have given other 3D filmmakers something to aspire to.

My opinion is that if your movie relies on the use of 3D then you haven't done a proper job with the script/characters.

UP works in both 3D and 2D because of its awesome script and characters seeing it in 3D simply enhances it.

I agree. This is why I said it is good to know that the 3D "adds" to the cinematic experience. To rely on it solely would be a mistake for any filmmaker.

After seeing the Avatar trailer in 3D I still stick to this statement, having to rely on 3D is wrong.

    However, saying that...

Holy CRAP Avatar does look awesome in 3D.

(saw it before Toy Story 3D)

Well it's definitely not a rumour anymore because 13 hours ago the official Facebook and Twitter pages of Avatar wrote:
