when I think of Avengers; I think of the British TV series and the crappy 1998 Uma Thurman movie adaptation

    what is this?

    another comic based movie?

I dont think I want to see Robert Downey Jr in another comic based movie when he is already doing Iron Man!

He will still be Iron Man in this as well. It will also have Chris Evans as Captain America,Edward Norton as The Incredible Hulk,Chris Hemswoth as Thor, and Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury. The ending of each of the other movies had a scene which helps set up the upcoming Avengers movie where they talk about putting together a team.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avengers_(comics)

The Avengers is a team of superheroes, appearing in magazines published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963), and was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist / co-plotter Jack Kirby.

Labeled "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", the Avengers originally consisted of Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man, and The Hulk. Captain America joined in issue #4. The rotating roster has become a hallmark of the team, although one theme remains consistent: the Avengers fight the foes no single superhero can withstand — hence their battle cry, "Avengers Assemble!" The team has featured humans, mutants, robots, gods, aliens, supernatural beings, and even former villains.

    The Avengers Starts Filming Today

    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=76814

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios will start filming The Avengers tomorrow (Monday) and director Joss Whedon has posted the following at Whedonesque!

    Hi Pumpkins, joss here.

Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one. That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:

[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss's keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in "Stormy Monday", drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]

Went too far. My bad. Anyhoo, it should be a fun day, followed by the eighty thousand other fun days it will take to finish this. I'll be checking in from time to time, if there's news or I crave attention (i.e. am awake) . None of it will be Avengers news -- I have some very denty pillows to remind of that -- but I may have tidbits. (They're not about Firefly. I should say that up front, if only to protect Sis Mo from the HATORZ.)...

...So wish me luck. DO IT! LUCK! NOW! I'm off to finish some Buffy pages, and then figure out what the movie is about already. I'm pretty sure it's about the Justice League [Marvel Lawyers re-enter, unspeakability occurs] or possibly something else. I'll get it. I've been looking forward to this. For about 46 years.

    Catchphrase!

    -j.

THIS VIDEO WAS REMOVED UPON REQUEST BY THE STUDIO
I imagine before too long it will be online officially.

    Until then,here is a description...http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=79887

Steve Rogers is in an empty gym throwing haymakers at a punching bag before finally punching it so hard it breaks off it's chains and (I believe) through the wall. Nick Fury walks in and says something along the lines of "getting ready for the enemy?" and Steve goes "Well it's been awhile

*I don't know word for word exactly what they said. I saw the scene around 8 and I'm writing this at 1:30a.m. So yea I'm a little tired.

Then we see quick snippets of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Loki being escorted in "handcuffs" by SHIELD. After that it's a long shot of Thor rocking a new outfit reminiscent of his Ultimate garb (sleeveless) in front of some roundtable of SHIELD.

Then basically after that it's shots of action scenes with each character - Iron Man in what still looks to be his Mark 7 outfit getting ready to fire his repulsor beams, Cap in some sorta battlefield, Black Widow doing some flips and throwing darts, Hawkeye shooting an arrow, Thor summoning lightening, a shot of Bruce Banner taking off his glasses.

Then the trailer closes off with really quick action shots. Couldn't tell what they were, no actual clue as to who the villain(s) is/as we only see Loki. You don't really see a shot of all of them together though I could be wrong about that and missed it.

Joss Whedon's The Avengers has set a new bar in opening to a walloping $200.3 million at the domestic box office, the largest debut ever and kicking off summer 2012 in high style, easily dethroning Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which opened to $169.2 million last summer, then the largest number in history.

Avengers is now positioned to reach $1 billion in global grosses.

(maybe it will beat Avatar's record?)

Among other records, Avengers is the first film in history to cross $200 million in only three days of play at the domestic box office. It also scored the biggest Saturday gross of all time in earning $69.7 million.

Stay to the end of the credits for two additional scenes (as is standard with Marvel Films)

    (SPOILER modified for your protection)

    Scene 1:

Reveals the major villian Thanos. Bad news for the heroes.

    Scene 2:

Guess the team went out for shwarma with Iron Man. Very funny and random
