Sony Pictures’ and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s SKYFALL, the 23rd film in the James Bond series, grossed an extraordinary $156 million this weekend, bringing the overseas total to $287 million after just 10 days. Sony’s markets earned an estimated $139 million for the weekend and MGM’s licensees did and estimated $17 million. Simply a staggering result!

GERMANY opened with a huge $23.9, which was the biggest opening of 2012, 77% bigger than the opening of Quantum of Solace and 88% bigger than Casino Royale. ITALY launched with $7.9, which was the biggest opening of a Hollywood film in 2012 and the 2nd biggest overall. It beat the opening of Quantum by 95% and Casino by 85%. SPAIN opened to $6.7, which is the 2nd biggest opening of the year behind the phenomenal The Impossible. It was 27% bigger than the opening of Quantum and 73% more than Casino. SWITZERLAND had a record-setting opening of $5.3, the biggest opening in history there, breaking Quantum of Solace’s old record. HOLLAND opened with $4.4 which was by far the biggest opening of the year there, almost 2 ½ times the previous best Dark Knight. The opening of Skyfall was 91% bigger than that of Quantum, 179% more than Casino.

AUSTRIA launched with a gigantic $3.4, more than double the previous biggest opening of 2012 (Ted), and the 2nd biggest opening of all time there behind Lord Of The Rings: Return of the King in 2003. MEXICO bowed with $3.2, which was 40% bigger than the opening of Quantum of Solace and 151% bigger than Casino Royale. In Asia, INDIA launched with a big $5.1, the 2nd biggest opening of the year there behind only The Amazing Spider-Man, beating the openings of the the #3 film Avengers by 20% and the #4 film Dark Knight by 41%. This opening was 60% bigger than Quantum’s, 82% more than Casino’s. INDONESIA opened on a rare Thursday and grossed $2.5, outgrossing the normal Wednesday openings of Quantum by 93% and Casino by almost 4 times. It was the #3 opening of the year there behind The Amazing Spider-Man and Avengers.

MALAYSIA also bowed with $2.5 and like Indonesia was the 3rd biggest opening of the year behind the same films. This was 45% bigger than Quantum’s opening frame, 160% more than Casino’s. TAIWAN also launched with $2.5, here the 2nd biggest opening of the year behind Avengers, 69% bigger than Quantum and more than 5 times the opening of Casino. SINGAPORE opened to $2.3, the 4th best opening of 2012 behind Avengers, Spider-Man, and Dark Knight. This opening beat those of Quantum by 77% and Casino by 117%. The PHILIPPINES launched with $1.9, 44% bigger than the opening of Quantum, 3 times the opening of Casino. HONG KONG also opened to $1.9 with an 80% market share, besting the opening of Quantum by 59%, Casino by 3 times. THAILAND launched with $1.8 and an 83% market share, 13% bigger than the opening of Quantum, 34% bigger than Casino.

20+ smaller markets all opened well, bigger than any of the previous James Bond films.

Holdovers were nothing less than stunning. The UK fell off just 21% from its opening weekend to gross $25.7 and bring the 10-day market cume to jaw-dropping $85.8 million. France added $14.3 in its 2nd frame to bring the market cume to $30.0, already passing the lifetime of Casino Royale and a day from passing Quantum Of Solace. The Fri-Sat-Sunday portion of the weekend fell off just 20% from last weekend’s opening. RUSSIA was off a good 47% from its opening, adding $5.2 to bring the market cume to $$16.1. BRAZIL fell just 5% from its opening frame ($3.4/$7.8 cume), KOREA was down 49% ($3.0/$11.4), SWEDEN fell off just 2% from its opening frame ($2.8/$8.1 cume), DENMARK fell 15% ($2.7/$7.5), BELGIUM was up 6% for Fri-Sun ($2.6/$4.9), POLAND fell just 24% from its opening ($1.9/$5.7), NORWAY was off 48% ($1.5/$6.5), and FINLAND fell 12% ($1.3/$4.1).

Imax issued an estimated weekend gross of $4.3 mil in 132 locations over 36 territories, or $33+k a screen.

Those figures DO NOT include China outside of Hong Kong, the rest of the markets where it's showing already between Today and Thursday (estimated another $60 Million by Friday) and the U.S. opening numbers starting with IMAX on Wed and Wide Release on Friday ending on Sunday night (estimated $80+ million).

Also, the following countries will not get it until after Skyfall has opened in the U.S.A.:

    Cambodia 15 November 2012
    Australia 22 November 2012
    New Zealand 22 November 2012
    South Africa 30 November 2012
    Japan 1 December 2012
    Dominican Republic 6 December 2012

The buzz is this movie will reach $750 Million by the time it has finished it's world wide run (including domestic).

    Wait.

I was under the understanding that IMAX gets it first on Thursday and the NON-IMAX showings are on Friday.

But I am looking at Cinemark.com and on Thursday, they have it showing at IMAX, which is correct.

But what's strange is also on Thursday, Cinemark has it showing at their XD theaters too:

This has to be a mistake!

Maybe. I looked up my local Rave Theater and they have it listed midnight Wednesday. Then all day Thursday in Imax and all day Friday in both Imax and regular cinema. I checked a few other locations with Imax at Rave and they are all like that.

I called one of the Cinemark that has XD showings listed for Thursday and talk to the lady manager who said, yes, on Thursday is only on IMAX.

So I asked her, but these showings you have listed are XD and you are not an IMAX theater (they are not), how do you explain that?

She got all quiet and didn't have an answer for me.

Taking our kids to school and then on to Skyfall at 9:30am (Digital NON IMAX show), all 6 of us (Me, my wife and our parents).

    Amazing isn't it?

When I was a kid, Dad took the entire family to see a James Bond film almost every 2 years til we were old enough to go on our own/we grew up and moved out of the house or had other obligations making it difficult to get the entire family together.

The last one we saw together was License to Kill.

Now it's our turn to take our parents to see a James Bond film.

    Skyfall passes $1Billion.

    http://movies.yahoo.com/news/skyfall...170014095.html

"Skyfall," the 23rd James Bond adventure, has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures and Gary Barber, MGM's chairman and chief executive, made the announcement Sunday.

The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the most successful Bond film of all time. It is also the highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office in Sony Pictures history.

Skyfall," starring Daniel Craig as 007, took in $4.6 million this weekend in North America for a total of $289.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $10.3 million for an international total to date of $710.6 million and a worldwide total exceeding $1 billion and growing. It has yet to play China, where it will open on Jan. 21.

SKYFALL even broke the record for the Highest earning Bond film, previously held by THUNDERBALL for 47 years.

SKYFALL is only the third 2D movie to pass $700 million overseas.

SKYFALL has sold more tickets in the US than:

    -Any X-Men film
    -Any Lethal Weapon film
    -Any Clint Eastwood film
    -Any Star Trek film
    -Any Bourne film
-Any movie with Vin Diesel in a starring role

Now it looks like even THE HOBBIT won't out-gross it, which would make it the first time that Bond has lead the seasonal box office since we've been able to keep track of such things.

Skyfall makes list of most mistake filled movies (note: edited a bit to include only Skyfall info. Check out link for other movies)

    http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-...023655687.html

Hey, no one expects a 007 mission to go completely perfectly, do they?

"Skyfall" is still going strong after almost two months in domestic release, having recently passed the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office. It's also finally getting some official accolades, as it's the surprise entry on today's list of Producers Guild of America movie nominations.

So it would appear that audiences, critics and awards organizations either haven't noticed -- or, just as likely, don't mind -- all of the film's continuity and factual errors.

MovieMistakes.com has released the list of 2012 releases with the most errors, with "Skyfall" coming in at #2 with 35 mistakes. Those spotted by hawk-eyed viewers range from the rather formidable:

    - Just before Bond reaches the Chapel, he plunges into icy water. In the next scene, in the Chapel, he is perfectly dry.

    - In the bar with Bond drinking and watching television he reaches over for a bottle which is 80% full. He pours a small amount into his glass and watches the TV. In the next shot the bottle is only about 20% full.

    - When on the motorbike on the rooftops of Istanbul, Bond at first has no sunglasses on, then sunglasses on, then no sunglasses.

To the rather detail-oriented (Q himself would be proud):

    - In the car scene just before the MI6 explosion, invalid IPv4 addresses (with digits larger than 255) are displayed on the laptop screen.

    - James Bond is seen driving down Whitehall in London. Behind him a number 38 bus is seen. However the 38 does not travel down or indeed particularly near Whitehall.

While a total of 35 errors may seem high, it's not quite as impressive (or unimpressive, depending on how you look at it) as the whopping 63 mistakes that were in "Men in Black III," which came in at #1...

...Anyway, looking at the films that make up the Top Five, one can conclude that it's apparently hard to keep track of everything in big budget action movies where things are exploding, vehicles are crashing into each other and the actors are, well, moving around and touching things a lot.
Our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us. - Matthew Mcconaughey - Interstellar
