Last year was the end of the decade. 2000-2009 is 10 years, 2000-2010 is 11.

Technically the decade runs 2001-2010. There was never a year 0. That's what cracked my up about the year 2000 being called the Millennium when in fact it didn't start for another year.

Yes, yes, yes! After 1 B.C. was 1, not 0. Mistakes about it pisses me off more than 10 years now.
