The Film

Chanda, 12 years old, learns of a rumor that spreads like wildfire through her small village near Johannesburg. It threatens to split her family and forces her mother to flee. Sensing that the gossip stems from prejudice and superstition, Chanda leaves home and school in search of her mother and the truth. On her journey, she is joined by best friend Esther, who has also been sidelined by the village elders, and the irrepressible Mrs. Tafa, who was once the pillar of the township, until her sympathy for Chanda leads her to switch sides and take a stand for change.
