I am being told by several friends (who don't live in the USA) that have already seen Prometheus, to see it in 3D because that's how Ridley Scott filmed it, using the same 3D cameras and technology James Cameron used for Avatar.

Not the same 3D cameras. RED EPIC cameras, to be precise. Far better than the ones used by J. Cameron on Avatar.

Don't film makers sometimes shoot scenes for IMAX that don't end up in the regular theaters? For this I will be seeing it in both IMAX and Real 3D.

The only down side of IMAX is that the glasses are somewhat uncomfortable and the image is shorter (not as wide). Yet the image on the screen is larger(as a whole) so that helps.

I wonder if the IMAX is filmed with the same RED EPIC cameras or not.

If not, then will there be a quality degradation?

I emailed Red Epic and this is the response I received:

I would suggest seeing it in as many different deliverable formats as you can and compare for yourself. I generally contact the theatre before I go and get the make and model number of the project to confirm if it's playing in film or digital, on a 4K or 2K projector. But keep in mind, it matters how the movie was delivered once complete, in 2K or 4K. That can be harder to confirm. Hope this helps.

    All the best,

    Brian P. Clark
    RED Digital Cinema
I doubt the managers at the movie theater will be able to answer those questions.

Umm... I'll post my review shortly guys... But don't get too excited, it's good, but not great, not at all...

    One a slightly spoilery note,
     NSFW
the film seems to imply that "facehuggers" are somehow a genetic mutation of human sperm... Eww...

Mod Edit: Used NSFW tag, seems spoiler tag is not working??
