Matchstick Men was good, Gladiator won a ton of Oscars, Body of Lies was interesting, same with American Gangster. Kingdom of Heaven... Well the director's cut is the only way to go on that one. But I will give you Robin Hood. That was just terrible. Same with the score. Yuck...

You have to be kidding or just saying this to get a reaction??????

Prometheus is going to be an awesome movie, because Ridley has made such a wide variety of movies over the years and his recent films are what made him a such successful director in Hollywood and no doubt lead to this opportunity to make Prometheus.

His early career was littered with box office disappointments and I personally would prefer the director that gave us Kingdom of Heaven and Black Hawk Down over the guy that gave us Legend and G.I. Jane.

I have no doubt that Prometheus would be half the movie it is going to be, if it had been done it earlier in his career and I'm pretty sure that the storyline wouldn't have been as ambitious.

I saw the trailer to this at the movie theater yesterday; it was in front of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Not one person in the theater (there were about 200 people in the auditorium) said anything, clapped, gasped, etc etc... NOTHING at all!

Total quiet when the trailer was over!!

I don't know if they were in shock, surprised, confused or they just plain didn't know this was a movie in the ALIEN universe.

But when the next 2 trailers came on: everyone whistled and laughed out loud - The Dictator with Sacha Baron Cohen and the POS 21 Jump Street .

This confirms to me that most of today movie going audience is dumb and clueless and too easily entertained!!

Me too I prefer his earlier movies, from the 2000s the only film I like from him is Gladiator and even I don't think it was amazing, but just ok (if we compare to some others sword-and-sandal/epic movies from the 50s-60s), I think the score was better than the film!

For Prometheus, the teaser looks nice, but that doesn't mean anything for me. Hope it's gonna be good!

I don't find the countdown ridiculous at all.

First of all, how often have you seen it done before? It's not something that would work if it were for just any movie. I mean, I honestly don't believe we'll ever be seeing a countdown to some Adam Sandler garbage. Second of all, this marks Ridley's return to sci-fi and one of the franchises that played a huge role in his success. And finally, it did what it set out to do - it created a lot of excitement, a lot of anticipation and gave fans some tantalizing behind the scenes glimpses.

Say what you want but I found it extremely refreshing and exciting.

The trailer wasn't generic at all either. Apart from the Alien trailer (which is once again Ridley's property), I can't liken this to any other trailer I've seen before.

I'm not sure if this is a teaser or trailer but as far as I know, and the way it was presented, it's a trailer. The Alien trailer was longer but when you take the first minute of the Alien trailer, it was really just slow lingering shots and then the rest of the trailer played in the style we see in the Prometheus trailer. Maybe we'll get a longer trailer or maybe we'll get another trailer in similar length with different footage. I can only hope they leave a lot to the fans' imagination with the rest of the marketing.

We have previews/countdown of trailers yet-to-be-released all the time on Entertainment Tonight and other shows like that, not for Adam Sandler movies, but for blockbuster yes (like Green Lantern, Twilight). Some people might like it, fine, but the "the teaser is coming" teaser is just too much. This might just be me, it's my opinion. I didn't like the Jacob-New Moon Trailer gimmick trailer either.

By the way, I like this teaser, but I said it maybe looks too scifi generic for some people, the other Alien trailers have Sigourney Weaver in it, this is not the same thing. The first times I see the teaser, I could really not tell this is Alien related (the font is the only clue) and I though the teaser looks like the Pandorum (1min40) trailer with better special effects...

Look, I know those celebrity gossip shows love doing that but this is different, in my opinion. The hype this is creating online is incredible. I don't watch those celebrity channels/shows and I'm sure there's a lot of others who don't either. So to create a countdown buildup online is a clever idea. The other reason why I don't think the teasers for a trailer is too much is because this is not just any generic Twilight or sci-fi film. Like I said, it's Ridley Scott's return to the Alien franchise. It's a big deal.

BUT... if I saw teasers for trailers all the time, then yes, I might be annoyed about it. But I haven't seen countdowns to trailers online for quite some time.

Sigourney Weaver might not be in it but there's no denying that it's an Alien film for anybody who's seen them and remembers them. Look at the sets and Giger influences, look at the derelict, look at the space jockey chair - one of the iconic images from Alien, listen to the track (which is incorporating a lot of Alien elements in the trailer) - anybody who knows about Alien will recognise it as an Alien film. People who don't know much about Alien - well, it won't make a difference to them and it might bring in new fans.

One thing that I notice from the trailer is ...

It's not LV426 ... At least not the version from the Alien film.

    - The air appears breathable ... They are not wearing helmets in some shots.
    - The sky is blue ... It was permanent night basically on LV246
    - The ground is clear and unobstructed ... In Alien it's rocky and dangerous

I kind of think that this is not the exact prequal to Alien ... It's in the same universe and we will get an origins story. But this isn't LV426, and that may not come into it at all ...

    they have the tagline correctly.

this IS the most anticipated film of the year.

it's not Skyfall, it's not Hobbit.

it's Prometheus and it's been a long long 26 years wait!!

I think I can almost willing to forgive 20th Century Fox for Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection..... almost!!

It was on Yahoo UK first but they deleted the page a few hours after. Nobody knows why. You can see it at the end of the video.
