Cool Interstellar (2014) - by Christopher Nolan

Next film on the books for Christopher Nolan (of Batman Begins/Dark Knight fame) is a big budget Scifi film. Titled "Interstellar" and set for a 2014 release. Not much known about it yet, but news beginning to pickup!

    Source

Christopher Nolan's upcoming "Interstellar" is a picture so big it's going to take two studios to release it.

Paramount and Warner Bros. will co-produce and distribute "The Dark Knight" director's upcoming sci-fi film.

Paramount will handle the domestic distribution, while Warner's, which oversaw the roll-out for "Inception" and the Batman movies and where Nolan is considered a crown jewel, will handle the film internationally.

It will be released beginning November 7, 2014, in theaters and IMAX.

As usual with Nolan's projects, "Interstellar's" details are getting the state-secret treatment, but the studios did say in a release that it centers on a voyage to the furthest reaches of scientific understanding.

Nolan will direct and write the picture. Jonathan Nolan, his brother and frequent writing partner, will collaborate on the script.

Co-productions among rival studios are not unheard of, though they are hardly the norm. Paramount and 20th Century Fox, for example, had a similar arrangement on "Titanic," and like James Cameron, Nolan is no stranger to painting on a big canvas.
Our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us. - Matthew Mcconaughey - Interstellar

    A time travel movie?

Wasn't Inception also a time travel movie?

Matthew McConaughey Confirms Starring Role in Christopher Nolan's Sci-Fi Epic 'Interstellar'
(***Wonder if he'll have another film where he takes off his shirt...he seems to like doing that...)

    Source

Matthew McConaughey will star in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic "Interstellar," the director's follow-up to "The Dark Knight Rises" and McConaughey's first big-budget film in years. The actor told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune he had accepted the role in the film, confirming reports from about a week ago.

The Texan has undergone a career renaissance over the past couple of years after close to a decade of making charming but redundant romantic comedies. After the "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," the last in his string of rom-coms, McConaughey took a couple of years off and then starred in "The Lincoln Lawyer" in 2011. 2012 was a year neither the actor nor cinephiles will readily forget.

McConaughey played an enterprising prosecutor in Richard Linklater's "Bernie," a murderous cop in "Killer Joe" and a stripper in "Magic Mike" -- all in a span of a few months.

All three films were made on shoestring budgets, and all three paired McConaughey with iconic directors -- Linklater, Billy Friedkin and Steven Soderbergh. His performance in "Magic Mike" also earned him an Independent Spirit Award.

McConaughey will next appear in "Dallas Buyers Club" as an AIDS patient and in Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Yet "Interstellar," which Nolan is directing from a script by his brother Jonathan, marks the latest step in McConaughey's career evolution. The story follows a physicist, Kip Throne, who proffered that time travel was possible.

Steven Spielberg was initially slated to direct, but now the Oscar winner will produce with fellow titan Nolan behind the camera.

Though the film, a collaboration between Paramount and Warner Bros., is set to open in the more awards-focused time of November 2014, sci-fi in Nolan's hands will always feel grandiose.

The diversity of roles McConaughey has taken on have landed him in films that are both awards contenders and box office draws. This film would seem to fall in both categories.

John Lithgow completes cast list for "Interstellar"

On the heels of back-to-back appearances in studio comedies last year, John Lithgow has signed on to round out the cast of Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar," an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Paramount and Nolan had no comment, while a representative for Lithgow did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Paramount and Warner Bros are teaming on the epic sci-fi movie, which stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and Mackenzie Foy, as well as Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, "Rachel Getting Married" star Bill Irwin and "Homeland" actor Timothee Chalamet, whose castings were first reported by TheWrap.

Story follows a heroic group of explorers who travel through a wormhole and into another dimension. Details of Lithgow's role are being kept in a vault on the third rock from the sun.

Jonah Nolan wrote the original script, which Chris then merged with one of his original sci-fi ideas. The director is also producing with Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst, while Jordan Goldberg will exec produce with Caltech physicist Kip Thorne, who serves as a technical consultant on the project.

Lithgow, who recently won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his villainous turn as the Trinity Killer on the fourth season of Showtime's "Dexter," was last seen playing Leslie Mann's estranged father in Judd Apatow's "This Is 40." He also co-starred in Jay Roach's political comedy "The Campaign" and will soon be seen in director Tommy Lee Jones' drama "The Homesman." Repped by WME and attorney Walter Teller, Lithgow has won a Tony and been nominated for two Oscars.
