    Cool X-Men - Apocalypse (2016)

Confirmed! The next story in the X-Men saga is entitled "X-Men: Apocalypse" and is slated for a May 27, 2016 release (this coincides with the American holiday weekend for Memorial Day, usually reserved for movie studios think will make A LOT of money)

Earlier today, it was announced that director Bryan Singer will be back for X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be a direct sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past. This will mark the first time Bryan Singer has directed back-to-back movies in the franchise since X-Men in 2000 and X2: X-Men United in 2003. It will be his next project, with work starting immediately.

The news follows Fox's announcement that Simon Kinberg has signed a three-year deal to help guide and expand their own Marvel cinematic universe, with stories that span multiple films. It hasn't been confirmed, but it is assumed, that he will be writing this next installment in the X-Men franchise.

While story details have not been revealed at this time, it is confirmed that, much like X-Men: Days of Future Past, events will be taking place in the 1970s. It was also confirmed earlier today that the X-Men: First Class cast lead by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto will be at the center of this latest adventure.

No actors have been announced, and its unclear if any other X-Men: Days of Future Past cast members not in X-Men: First Class will participate.

The X-Men: First Class had originally sighed deals for a trilogy, and at this time, it is not known if X-Men: Apocalypse is being looked at as the second or third part of those contracts. It was noted in our earlier story that After Avatar, X-Men: Days of Future Past is the second most expensive film that 20th Century Fox has ever made.

X-Men: Apocalypse comes to theaters May 27th, 2016. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.

    Update from Blastr.com

X-Men: Days of Future Past hasn't even hit theaters yet, but that doesn’t mean director Bryan Singer ain’t talking about the next X-Men flick on his agenda, X-Men: Apocalypse.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Singer said that the film will be “somewhat” based on the 1990 comic storyline “Age of Apocalypse,” which featured the classic villain Apocalypse. However, Singer stressed that the new X-Men film will not happen in an alternate universe, the way that it did in the comics.

“[The movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with,” admits Singer. Adds Kinberg, “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Singer also noted the ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past will provide some clues for the upcoming Apocalypse storyline, but don't expect the ending to directly set up Apocalypse:

“You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen.” He adds, “Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

Well, this all sounds very exciting and intriguing. We wonder how Bryan Singer will pull this one off, since Age of Apocalypse is a massive sandbox in which to play.

However, what has us most excited is the list of mutants Singer wants to add to the mix in Age of Apocalypse. Namely? Gambit and Nightcrawler. Can we get a loud hooray?!

Fan favorite Gambit was last seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and was played by John Carter's Taylor Kitsch, while Nightcrawler appeared only in X-Men 2 and was played to perfection by Alan Cumming. Singer said: “I’m excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the ‘80s.”

The roles will probably be recast, since X-Men Apocalypse will follow the First Class cast of Charles Xavier/Professor X (James McAvoy), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven Darkholm/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and be set roughly in the 1980s.

Comments from screenwriter Simon Kinberg on the next movie

“It will focus primarily on the ‘First Class’ cast, but it will certainly have some of the original cast involved, too,” Kinberg said.
While it’s widely been assumed that Bryan Singer will return to direct “X-Men: Apocalypse,” those plans have been subject to doubt due to the controversy that’s surrounded Singer as he’s been accused of sexual assault. However, Kinberg’s reply to the question of whether he’ll be back was a simple “That’s the plan.”

Kinberg stayed mum when asked about the accusations made toward Singer.

“Well, I don’t really want to speak on anything outside the movie, but I believe Bryan created the template for the modern superhero movie,” he said. “I remember where I was when I saw ‘X-Men,’ and I thought he redefined the way people made comic book films.”
From another article with a different interview

Matthew Vaughn was a big part of Days of Future Past, since he was originally going to direct, and really wanted to leap forward with the characters and thought it’d be more interesting to see where they were as characters 10 years later, not just one year later. We’ll do something similar with Apocalypse, pushing further into our past and their future. I grew up in the 80s, and there’s no music I like more than the 80s, and there’s a very good chance it’ll be in the 80s.

Apocalypse will primarily follow the First Class cast … those will be your protagonists, but there may be some characters from the original cast that could be part of it, and there’s a possibility to tell origin stories for other members of the X-Men universe we haven’t seen yet.”

Bryan Singer returns! Also confirms that Apocalypse is the villian!

It's official: Bryan Singer is back on board to direct X-Men: Apocalypse. And his name is not the only familiar one in the mix.

Although Singer has been talking for a while like he was already going to do the film, there was always the chance that he could not come to terms on his deal to do so. The sexual assault allegations against him, which have since been dismissed, didn't help, either, for a while.

According to Deadline, however, an agreement has been reached and Singer has been signed by Fox to get back behind the camera for his fourth X-Men feature. It probably didn't hurt that his return to the franchise, this summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, was the highest-grossing of the series ($746 million worldwide) and the most critically acclaimed since the first two (which he also directed).

As for the story, we know that Singer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg have settled on the ancient mutant Apocalypse as the villain, and we also know that the First Class versions of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will come back for a third time at bat in a story set 10 years after Days of Future Past.

But Singer and Kinberg definitely plan to introduce young versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm and others into the story as well, so expect to see casting announcements for those roles soon. Will Channing Tatum make his debut as Gambit in this one? Unknown, but possible. And how will Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) fit into the story this time? No idea, but you know they won't make it without him.

Production starts next spring with the film due to be released on May 27, 2016.
