Confirmed! The next story in the X-Men saga is entitled "X-Men: Apocalypse" and is slated for a May 27, 2016 release (this coincides with the American holiday weekend for Memorial Day, usually reserved for movie studios think will make A LOT of money)

Earlier today, it was announced that director Bryan Singer will be back for X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be a direct sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past. This will mark the first time Bryan Singer has directed back-to-back movies in the franchise since X-Men in 2000 and X2: X-Men United in 2003. It will be his next project, with work starting immediately.

The news follows Fox's announcement that Simon Kinberg has signed a three-year deal to help guide and expand their own Marvel cinematic universe, with stories that span multiple films. It hasn't been confirmed, but it is assumed, that he will be writing this next installment in the X-Men franchise.

While story details have not been revealed at this time, it is confirmed that, much like X-Men: Days of Future Past, events will be taking place in the 1970s. It was also confirmed earlier today that the X-Men: First Class cast lead by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto will be at the center of this latest adventure.

No actors have been announced, and its unclear if any other X-Men: Days of Future Past cast members not in X-Men: First Class will participate.

The X-Men: First Class had originally sighed deals for a trilogy, and at this time, it is not known if X-Men: Apocalypse is being looked at as the second or third part of those contracts. It was noted in our earlier story that After Avatar, X-Men: Days of Future Past is the second most expensive film that 20th Century Fox has ever made.

X-Men: Apocalypse comes to theaters May 27th, 2016. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.
