This $140 million budget movie is not out yet and it's already in trouble.
Cut down by almost 100 min for theatrical release.
Going to have the same box office fate as the $130 million budget Ridley Scott's Kingdom Of Heaven which was also cut down to pieces for theatrical release.
Oh wait!
This is a Ridley Scott's film too!

It's a standard procedure for big budget Epic movies, they film tons of stuff and then it gets chopped down to a reasonable time frame. Either it's good or bad still remains to be seen.
Seriously, the days of people watching a 3 hour long movie in a theater are gone, that's what Director's Cut and extended edition BD's & DVD's are for.

I don't mind sitting in a theater and watching a near 3 hours film if it's good.
There has been many recent successful 3 hours films like Interstellar, The Hobbit and LOTR movies, the Dark Knight movies, Wolf Of Wall Street, etc.

As you said "SOME", but remember Fanboy movies are different, they have a following that can watch them 50 times in a row.
Take Marvel for example, they seem to keep their offerings around the 140 minutes and less, "Guardians" was only 121 minutes, and for the most part, nobody stays for the credits which are included in the runtime.
Seriously, how many people would sit through "The Ten Commandments" these days without getting bored, which is basically in the same category. All I'm saying is that a director's vision is artistic, but when it comes down to it, the studios look at what's going to be their best bet for their bottom line.
