The Hateful Eight (The H8ful Eight) - 2015

    Cast:

    Director: Quentin Tarantino

    About

In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all.....

    Hmmm. Video doesn't exist.

I youtubed for it but only got fan-edits with lots of photoshop.

Looks like QT is really doing his best to keep this under wraps.
I also hear he's retiring after this one.

Shot in Ultra Panavision 70 (2.76:1 aspect ratio). Remember Ben-Hur?

Probably not, this is Radius/TWC, my polite requests to be added to the distribution list were met with total silence.
Still, there is always a possibility that I can get a copy at some point from an alternate source, but as of now NADA.
At least we have an Apple encode until the MKV encode is posted.

Apple version was vertically stretched (I compared it with the Youtube encode) for an Aspect Ratio of 2.70:1 (wrong)

I fixed it to bring it back to the true aspect ratio of Ultra Panavision 70 that is 2.76:1 (properly letterboxed for 16:9 screens)

There's nothing wrong, they just added the black bars to match the usual 816 pixels height (standard for widescreen trailers on itunes).

No, once I cropped the black bars the resolution was 1920x712= 2.70:1

The Youtube encode without black bars is 1920x696= 2.76:1

You can check if you want....
