BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. Based on Lew Wallace’s timeless novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

I can't see through walls, but I can kick your ass.

So this is what Timur Bekmambetov has been up to.
Still waiting for him to get the rights back to the Night Watch franchise.
I don't remember the original so much. The only thing this has going for it is CG.
The production value seems overbloated compared to the original. IIRC, it was monumental the budget they spent to make the actual set design back then.
I'm guessing this won't be using the Ultra Panovision either?
It's for kids. The only way they can connnect to cinematic history.

It sucks, it's garbage, it's a crime to desecrate such a classic...
Joking aside, I'm not one to evaluate an entire movie from any trailer, after all, it's still in production.
As opposed to the first takes (1925/1959), this is not "Epic" by any definition, after all look at the cast.
Apart from the "Watch" movies, he made "Wanted" and "Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter", both OK popcorn movies but definitely no Box Office melting expectations. Personally, I think that using the "Ben-Hur" title for such a production will negatively affect it, they could have called it "The Roman Games" and it would probably make as much, or even more.

The first version came out in 1907. The first known version, directed by Fred Niblo, came in 1925. The better-known film version of the Lew Wallace novel, directed by William Wyler, was released in 1959.

And by the looks of this trailer, this version will be forgotten in a year.

2 hours and 3 minutes running time (including rolling credits) compared to the 3 hours and 32 minutes running time of the original masterpiece.
Yeah! That will work out great for this film to be able to tell the same story with 1 hour and 30 minutes less of footage.
Also the chariot race in the original was a work of labor and skilled ridership and choreography without using any computers and CGI.
TRIVIA: The chariot race required 15,000 extras on a set constructed on 18 acres of backlot at Cinecitta Studios outside Rome. Tour buses visited the set every hour. Eighteen chariots were built, with half being used for practice. The race took five weeks to film.
The outdoor set of the chariot race circus was the largest built for a film at the time.
The chariot scene alone cost about $4 million, or about a fourth of the entire budget, and took 10 weeks to shoot.
Charlton Heston had about a month to learn how to drive a chariot properly. Stephen Boyd--who was cast much later in the production--only had two weeks to do so.
The chariot arena was built by more than 1,000 workers beginning in January 1958, according to some reports. It was 2,000 feet long by 65 feet wide and covered 18 acres, the largest single set in motion picture history to that time. Reputedly, 40,000 tons of white sand were imported from Mexico for the track.
Also Jesus Christ is miscast!
Morgan Freeman should had played Jesus Christ!

I bet this one will be better than this big expensive Ben Hur remake (and a great deal cheaper to make too):
