UPDATED

release month: September
http://www.dvddebate.com/r1news.php#...More%20Rumours
Each of the four Alien films be presented as 2-disc 5 Star SE's.
Two of the discs will apparently be taken up with the original Alien Legacy bonus disc and a recent AMC 'Alien Saga' TV special documentary.
Alien will apparently boast a new 6 channel audio track.
Alien ³ will be the extended cut (but not Director approved, as Fincher has totally disowned the movie).

The Ultimate All-New Alien Boxset, loaded with hours of never before seen extras!
Of course these rumours are subject to change over the coming months and there is still no word on the technical specifications, such as soundtracks etc. Needless to say, all appetites have been truly whetted though.

Yeah, I'm guessing that Fox will do the usual with their other catalog titles. Each film will have a 2-disc set, and there will be another disc full of other extras!
Can we finally see an Alien 3 Special Edition??? My oh my...what fun we will have!

(Ironically, I started work on a trailer for the original Alien last week. Seems like I started working on it right on time!)

Thank God I didn't buy the first box set

I'm glad I'll own both box sets. I'm pretty sure 85-90% of the content will be new material for this new set.
Besides, I don't mind double-dipping anyway!

Thank God I didn't buy the first box set... on R1.
Now if the price of this set is around $US100-$US150, (or better still under $100) I'll go for it.Last edited by editman; 01-28-2003 at 05:32 PM.

from around the net
Yep, the Digital Bits transcribed a webcast with a Fox executive who said "Alien would be huge in 2003". Nine discs seems feasible with 2-disc SE's of each movie and Sir Ridley Scott's new (supposed) preference for 3-discers! Unless of course the ninth disc will merely be a repressing of the "fifth" disc from the original boxset...
And directors cuts of both Alien3 and Ressurection are rumoured.
http://www.thedigitalbits.comThere's an insert that's been included with Fox's X-Men 1.5: Special Edition DVD, which reveals a major upcoming release from the studio - the 9-disc Alien Quadrilogy box set! All four films in the series, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, are being given brand new special edition treatment (2-discs each) with a separate bonus disc of extra materials. Many of the extras on the set have never been seen before. There's no release date announced yet, but the title is set to be released in "2003". Click here to see a scan of the insert itself, and here's the tentative cover art for the box set...
If that is true then I will be needing plenty of new pants cum release.

Nah... 4 is enough... stop at the top and you'll be always remembered. Not like some movies with good begining and who knows how many direct to video sequels.
I don't really want Alien 5, I don't want Terminator 3, I don't want Back to The Future 4 ... no... some people should know when it is enough - don't push fame and luck until it is too late.

I agree. Have you seen how many "The land before time" sequels there are ? I only thought there was one movie (good movie BTW), but then I saw a commercial on TV annoucing the release of "The Land Before Time IX: Journey to the Big Water". It is ridiculous !Originally posted by BuDi

hey. land b4 times are kiddy movies.. they dont care if its a sequel or not.... as long as its cartoons =P
anyway more infos on the Alien DVDs
Here's something really cool: 20th Century Fox has revealed the first look at their upcoming Alien collection. Calling it the Alien Quadrilogy (actually the word should be "Tetralogy," but whatever), this 9-disc set will come loaded with never-before-seen extras. I guess that the collection will contain 2-disc sets of all four films plus a bonus disc that would either be the mail-away Alien Legacy documentary from the first box set, or it could be the new documentary produced for AMC (and which aired over the holidays). I must also mention that this set is rumored to contain a lengthened, but not director-approved, cut of the atrocious Alien 3 as well as the true 6-track surround mix for the first Alien (the current DVD mistakenly used a 4.0 track to create the "5.1" audio). Please check back as official word on all of this emerges. (thanks to Caleb and Dino for the scan)
6 track mix for Alien .. wow .. now if they also did this with Blade Runner, I am sure they will... its Ridley Scott anyway and he knows how to take care of his DVD releases =)
