Re: And the nominees are ....
Editman's choice (not time for reasons, just shots):
Performance by an actor in a leading role
Daniel Day-Lewis in GANGS OF NEW YORK (Miramax)
Performance by an actor in a supporting role
John C. Reilly in CHICAGO (Miramax)
Performance by an actress in a leading role
Nicole Kidman in THE HOURS (Paramount and Miramax)
Performance by an actress in a supporting role
Queen Latifah in CHICAGO (Miramax)
Best animated feature film of the year
SPIRITED AWAY (Buena Vista) Hayao Miyazaki
(by a god damn long shot!)
Achievement in art direction
CHICAGO (Miramax) Art Direction: John Myhre
Set Decoration: Gord Sim
Achievement in cinematography
CHICAGO (Miramax) Dion Beebe
Achievement in costume design
CHICAGO (Miramax) Colleen Atwood
Achievement in directing
GANGS OF NEW YORK (Miramax) Martin Scorsese
Achievement in film editing
CHICAGO (Miramax) Martin Walsh
Best foreign language film of the year
HERO
A Beijing New Picture Film Company/Elite Group Enterprises Production
People's Republic of China
(Although hardly likely, I haven't seen the other nominated films yet)
Achievement in makeup
THE TIME MACHINE (DreamWorks and Warner Bros.) John M. Elliott, Jr. and Barbara Lorenz
(again, hardly likely. But I haven't seen Frida)
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score)
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (DreamWorks) John Williams
Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song)
Lose Yourself from 8 MILE (Universal)
Music by Eminem, Jeff Bass and Luis Resto
Lyric by Eminem
(obvious choice of everyone's)
Best motion picture of the year
CHICAGO (Miramax)
A Producer Circle Co., Zadan/Meron Production
Martin Richards, Producer
(tough choice: Chicago is good but IMO not Best Movie material. I wanna pick Gangs of New York, but The Pianist could be 'The English Patient' of 2003. It's gonna be 1 of these 3.)
Achievement in sound
CHICAGO (Miramax) Michael Minkler, Dominick Tavella and David Lee
Achievement in sound editing
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (New Line) Ethan Van der Ryn and Michael Hopkins
Achievement in visual effects
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (New Line) Jim Rygiel, Joe Letteri, Randall William Cook and Alex Funke
Adapted screenplay
ADAPTATION (Sony Pictures Releasing) Screenplay by Charlie Kaufman and Donald Kaufman
Original screenplay
MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING (IFC/Gold Circle Films) Written by Nia Vardalos

I think Nick Cage should go up with Charlie.

Adrien Brody is my choice for the best actor. I saw the pianist last week and it really affected me.

why was donnie darko not mentioned... for that matter what about movies like signs??? i have not seen chicago.. but cmon... it was a musical now its a film.. big woop.. it had its heyday back when it was a musical got all the acclamation it needed.. WHEN IT was a musical... and i really dislike how half the awards centre around 2 movies and the rest of the nominations appear to be just "filler" to bulk up the list... and how did Eminem get a nod?
Rich's dream Oscar moment...
Presenter: "And the award goes to ... M. Eminem Matthers (sp?)"
E: "I would like to thank Dr Dre, the guys down at D12, ma niggas from home.. and most of all MTV for this fantastic award...peace y'all"
either that or another Michael Jackson fake award ... if Brittany Murphy was a presenter it would just work to well!!
Any word as to who is hosting it this year???

Every year the same, I hope the academy is improving but then come nominations and then awards day they disappoint again. Just a quick-fire list of what (IMO) the awards lack
No City of God in foreign film!
No Minority Report in special effects yet spiderman got in?
No Sam Mendes or Peter Jackson in Best Director.
Moulin Rouge got 8 last year but chicago gets 13?
No Punch-Drunk Love or Donnie Darko anywhere
Or nothing on Brit flick Sweet Sixteen.

usually oscars are on Pro7 ... and sometimes even unscrambled without commentary on satelite via german speaking swiss TeleClub
-----------
but here in Slovenia we'll get lame commentary by some lame so-called movie critic or some lame yellow-program moderator with no live commentary experiences and a lot of boring yellow trivia... of coures we could not hear any of the live sound becouse of speaker's triva report about nominee's dresses, love life, moneymaking etc.. *sigh*

Steve Martin gave my fave Oscar Quote ever: "You know, I went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but I was really disappointed, as there were no Tigers or Dragons. Then I realized why: They were crouching, and hidden."
