    iSONEWS Busted

ohh no, this is bad news for internet piracy... .....

if you never heard of this site, it list all warez or pirated software and DVD rips...
    http://www.isonews.com/....not anymore...

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/29491.html

The US Department of Justice has seized the ISOnews web site, which was a kind of bible for the discerning software copier, and is turning it into a repository of anti-piracy propaganda. The site's remarkable switch of role stems from the sale of Xbox mod chips, in violation of the DMCA. David Rocci, 22, of Blacksburg, Va, handed over the domain, iSONews.com, in plea bargaining, after pleading guilty to "conspiring to import, market and sell circumvention devices known as modification (or "mod") chips in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act". Rocci imported 450 Enigmah chips illegally from the UK and sold them through the site for approx $28,000. For this crime, Rocci could face a fine of up to $500,000 and 5-years in prison.

    so whats next?

Was the new front page put up by the US Government? if so
    hehehe....the US Government said "warez"

There has to be a happy medium between paying hundreds and ripping it off. Both are unfair to someone.

    Example:
Photoshop 7.0 costs hundreds of dollars. I cannot afford that but for the direction I am going in College, experiance with it is a must.

    So I
a/ fork out hundreds of dollars I don't have
    b/warez it
c/wait until I am a student, get the student discount, cram my brain with knowledge
d/aquire a copy, learn it and then buy it with the student discount so you have a legit copy and show support.

What path do you think most people take? B or D I garuntee it.

Our high school is banding with several other schools to work as a large group to get copies of Permier for something like $200CND each. Thousands of copies but great deal....

Realisticly there will always be an underground and a black market. If you stop it at the source, there are still already tons of customers who, with the internet have the ability to be sources in turn.

I don't mind paying for software and games etc. I just mind paying an excessive amount.

whats the point paying 600 dollars for a program when in 12 months there is a new version and they want you to pay another 600 dollars to upgrade!?!? that is unreasonable... either a) they make it cheaper, or b) instead of paying for software you pay a lease.. like $100 a year and you get free upgrades??

US mod chip retailer jailed and fined - A US man found guilty of selling mod chips on his website in breach of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act has been sentenced to five months imprisonment and a $28,500 fine. David Rocci, who sold the Enigmah mod chips for the Xbox from the site, Isonews.com (the domain was seized by the US Department of Justice last month, but the site is still operating here), pleaded guilty to breaching the DMCA by selling illegal copyright circumvention devices last December. His full sentence is five months in prison, five months of home detention, three years of probation and a $28,500 fine - that's L18,355 in real money.
