Beware! Starship Troopers 2! (spoilers included)

I saw Starship Troopers 2 last night and sinse there has been some talk about it, I must say this...

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

This is a piece of garbage that just insults the first which was great. The first had everything: action, guns, explosions, girls, bugs, ships, gore, character development and more. This hellish piece of crap has few bugs, few guns, only one explosion, one ship the same girl in shadowed places, fake gore and no character development at all. There is only one character I can remeber the name of!

To its credit, the precious few times we get bugs, they look pretty good. In fact the opening 20 mins is quite cool, being a human vs bug fight like the majority of the first, but after that they introduce some mind controlling spide rbug thing that enters the human body through the mouth. Ahhh hello? Starship Troopers not Body Snatchers.

Half way through this turns from an action movie to a horror film which has no frights or scares at all. In facts its friggin boring!

Anyway, this is a rubbish movie that steps all over the original and spitsall over the trampled remains.

Well, it's definetely not the first film, but then again...it was never meant to be. I quite enjoyed it. Sure, the first time around I didn't like it much either. But after a second viewing, somehow it grew on me, and for what it was...I thought it was fantastic. Felt like a great opening to a new TV series based on the film. And heck...I can't wait for the DVD....there are some great scenes to use to make a kick-*** trailer!

Like the Mortal Kombat movies. Lol.

I can see your point, but I still think mind control has no place in a ST storyline. But as I said, I enjoyed the first half, only to have it ruined by the second.

Actually Movieman, mind control bugs are a massive part of the SST storyline. The series covers this in extreme detail which also involves another alien race that join the humans in fighting against the bugs. The series was created but the creators of SST1 because the movie was a massive disappointment when standing next to the book. I haven't seen SST2 but it sounds more true to the book as the series was. Watch the series and you will agree with the creators that they really screwed up SST1 and fixed it up in the series. There are even power-armours in the series like the book talks about. If you haven't read the book, power-armours are mini-mechs. I wonder if SST2 has this!
Plus from what I can tell again, SST2 is again more true to the book and series with units being of 5 or 6 personel. Not like SST1 were there are whole garrisons together at one time. Wheres the technology? The series is about how Razak's Roughnecks go from planet to planet learn and defeating the bugs with the last battle being on Earth. They learn of an alien race, mind control bugs which learn and adapt about humans, mutant hybrid Aracnoids/Human beings... all learning that the bugs r learning us to invade Earth.
Very cool series. If you like the first movie (i pitty u), then you won't like the series. Its too involved with the story and charactors & plenty for action. Good news for ppl that like to watch thoughtout storylines.
I wonder (and waiting hopefully) if SST1 & 2 will come out in a double pack.

It's coming out in a two-pack in the States as well. And yes, SST2 follows along the lines of the storyline as Kn'thrak mentions. Now, here be spoilers if you don't want to know what happens...do not read!

    ---------------------------------------------------

SST2 starts out with a platoon being taken down by the bugs. The remaining survivors find an empty bunker that they go hide into, and call for retrieval. With them is a high ranking General, your usual group of troopers, and a murderer (which is not exactly what you might think, you'll have to watch the movie), all trapped with nowhere to go. The bugs have surrounded them, but cannot pass through an electric barrier that fries them if they try to get in. (Think of it as a gigantic one of those Electric Fly Zapper things). Now, while it seems as though everything is alright, we are introduced to new bugs who as stated earlier, can control our minds and such. Now, I don't want to get into too much more (as if there is much more to go), but the threat that the remaining survivors have to face, besides staying alive...is to prevent the mind controlling bugs to reach back to Earth. Overall, it's pretty exciting. Again, doesn't really cover the political aspects that I think the first one did well (except for the end), but overall, I think SST2 was a fun ride..and definetely worth a look. And, if anyone hasn't seen that cool 45 Second spot by Action Channel (not the first released teaser by Columbia), then I suggest you check it out!

Again I can see your point, but the thrill of the first to me was a fun Humans Vs Giant Bug action gorefest. This whole mind control thing works probably for alot of people, but I think the first was close to perfect and there was no need to change the formula. If i made a sequel, it would be more along the lines of the first. I also agree with that review with the political stuff. But hey thats just my opinion. Lots of people seem to like the second one and the new formula, but I won't be buying it. (unless or course it is on a discount shelf for less than $10.)

Don't knock the OC... it may be shallow crap, but it's exceptionally well written shallow crap.

I agree with this. Watched the pilot and first few episode and its boring but the writing became alot better towards the end of season 1.

This seems to be splitting fans down the middle. Some love it, others hate it.

I think I will watch it again cos I went in expecting the first and was (very) disapointed. I think I need to watch it for what it is and not what I want it to be and see if i like it more after that. Either way, I still don't approve of the skull peeling off and a bug coming out.

I just watched it, and it was crap. Starship Troopers the film (never read the book) was crap, but at least it was crap that had the potential to make some satire. SS2 didn't even have that. The story was basic, the characters were a tired bunch of badly acted cardboard cut outs, and the camera work was too steady during action scenes. Plus the DVD has some sound issues, keeps going quiet for no reason.

The book is a SF story, and quite a decent one. Starship Troopers (1) is NOT primarily an sf movie, its an action movie, and as such is quite a decent one.

The book may tell the story of a guy deciding to become an MI soldier leading to his involvment in the bugwar that occupy most of the last fifth of the book, but its not a story about war or bugs, its a story about a fascist society (and the hows and whys they have it). Its interesting as its told thought the eyes of a guy that more and more becomes indoctrinated by the system. This give the story a nice innocent eye perspective (meaning that we as a reader understand more of whats really going on than the character telling the story).

In the movie they basically scrapped this part of the book and focused only on the bugwar part, which really is a sidestory in the book. And thats ok, as it otherwise mostly would have been 2 hours of talking with no action. If you want action watch the movie, if you want an interesting view of a fascist society read the book.

The second movie, started out ok. They seemed to have a small budget but managed to make it look decent. Storywise it totally removed from the book. The mindcontrolling bugs is not in the book, and the MI (just like in the first one) has nothing to do with how they are written about in the book, as Kn'thrak mentioned earlier. Take away the yellow-black warrior bugs (as seen in ST1, which by the way dont really seem to be that much like the ones described in the book) and you got a movie that has 0% to do with the book. Well this by its self dosent mean its a bad movie. However, what starts as an actionmovie quickly degrades into a bad and gorry horror flick. And after about 25 min almost every scene is terribly hackneyed. For me personally its a very bad movie, but if your into b-horror I guess it could be good. However if your expecting an actionmovie in the style of ST1, its probably gonna dissapoint you. And if your looking for a story that resembles that of the book, I think you already know your looking in the wrong place.

And btw the book is definatlly worth a read.
