Man killed in crash after other driver watches 2 Fast 2 Furious

A 78-year-old Granada Hills man died when his car was struck by a motorist who told police he had just watched the street-racing film "2 Fast 2 Furious," according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Keijo Iko was killed instantly as he rounded the corner of Rinaldi Street south onto Hayvenhurst Avenue on Sunday. Iko's Toyota Camry was struck by a 2003 Nissan Altima that was speeding along Hayvenhurst between 70 and 90 mph, according to police.

The posted speed limit on the residential street is 40 mph, authorities said.

Why does this not surprise me at all.....

If you read the whole article, the police aren't drawing any links between the movie and the accident. But I remember coming out of the theatre after seeing the first movie and all the kid in their rice-mobiles where all doing peel-outs in the parking lot. Hell even one of my friends said he "felt" like driving like that after seeing the movie.

The thing is, it's only a movie. It just kills me when people use it as an excuse to justify something they did. These people have some serious issues. After watching a movie like Heat, I don't feel like walking into a bank with a M-16.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

There's a big difference between a movie like Heat, and a movie like 2fast 2 furious. Heat was about the characters, and they were shown as the bad guys. It showed there armed robbery as a bad thing.
2 Fast 2 Furious is a film about driving fast cars. It's street racers are the hero's, they've been written to be cool. The whole film was made to show how cool street racing is, and how much fun it is to drive fast.

Yes these guys were stupid, but like you said they weren't the only ones who drove fast after viewing the film. What annoys me more is that there will an innevitable backlash against comparrisons to the film. The makers wanted to glaumorize driving fast, and so they have to accept a measure of responcibility when things like this happen. They knew they made it look cool, they knew there's a lot of stupid people out there and they did it anyway.

I don't think the makers of this movie were too concerned on any social impact this movie may have. This type of movie was made for one reason, profit.

It'll be a sad day when a filmmaker steps back and says, "I can't do this or that" because of how some people might react to it. Hollywood has been getting a bum's rap in recent years when it comes to content in the movies.

There were a bunch of Honda Civics in our parking lot opening night. Two things we noticed:

    1. None of them could drive. At all. Like they looked like all their experiance was from Mario Kart and Crusin; USA.

    2. 99% of them were ticketed by the police for all the lights on their cars
(Laws are different everywhere but here in Ontario, every single extra light that you could add to your car, inside or out, is not street legal. the licence plate things, under car things, winsheild things - all of it.)

I never said that there was a social impact intended in 2 Fast 2 Furious. I said it was designed to make driving fast look cool. Reason, because cool makes money. They made something dangerous appealing for the sake of money, and are now going to turn around and say "Not my fault, I was just making money."

And yes, I do think that when you are doing something that is going to be witnessed by millions of people you have to be VEEEEEERY carefull what you make appealing, and Hollywood is constantly making, guns, violence, dangerous driving ect.. out to be cool. I persoanlly love action movies, but that doesn't alter the fact that the makers of these movies are partially to blame when someone does something stupid because of it.

Man, that is EXACTLY the stupidity that these friggin Car-Dog movies encourage.......I think it's fair enough to say that the movie companies are pumpin out waaaaaaaay too many of these visually impressive, but intellectually dry-as-the-sahara movies. After the first movie, even in Rockhampton, every dick with a old Escort or Torana thought he could be like Paul Walker and as a result, put spoilers and **** on their old shitbox cars......I can't escape all the idiots at the service station who come in, thinking i'm interested in their Toyota Supra or ****en Nissan Skyline that they bought using their mumma's credit card...."Yeah, man, it's ****in ilth, I pull all tha chicks in my Soooopraaaah!"

2 Fast 2 Furious can suck my bollocks.

I admit... I was doing 45 over the limit in my buick after I saw it... but it was on long, straight roads with no other traffic. But yes, I think Hollywood is treading on dangerous ground by glorifying this stuff. Most people think that they can be like Paul Walker. I don't. But I think I can go fast if I'm late getting home. I don't have spoilers, or any of that ****... nor do I plan to get it.

I saw it Saturday night. Wasn't too bad, actually a bit better than I expected it would be from watching the trailers. I still prefer the first one. I'm sure they could have found someone better than Tyrese and Devon Aoki (Suki, who I found very annoying) to fill those two roles. One thing I loved was the scene where Tyrese revs the whinny engine of the Eclipse, only to be drowned out by real American power from the Challenger. I'm a muscle car guy and that brought a smile to my face. That and the fact that the two ricers had to use NOS in order to win
