Zulu (1964)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058777/
Exciting war account of the British defence of a mission station at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, South Africa in January 1879;
where about 150 British Troops fought against a superior force of nearly 4000 Zulu warriors and won.
Michael Caine shines in this film, his first major film starring role!!
Her Majesty's Troops: 351 Kills
Zulu Kingdom Troops: 17 kills
Winner: Her Majesty's Troops!!

Les femmes de l'ombre aka Female Agents (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0824330/
Riveting, brutal, gut wrenching and depressing portrayal of the little known French Resistance Women who worked for the British SOE (Special Operation Executive) fighting the Nazi in Occupied Paris in World War 2.
Loosely based on the true story of Lise de Baissac, the French heroine of the SOE:

Is Sophie Marceau the only major French Actress working in French Cinema?
She seems to be in every French movie that requires a Heroine role.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340800/
a thinking man spy thriller which requires extreme attention on the part of the viewer and for some, even more than one viewing, to comprehend.
all in all, it's a cinematic achievement but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea; especially to those who are used to spy thrillers that contain big action sequences, visceral fight scenes and Jason Bourne/Mission Impossible style editing and stunts.
I give it 4.25/5

Purple Hearts (1984)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087956/
a very under-rated and overlooked Vietnam War movie with love drama subtext from the 80s, starring Ken Wahl and Cheryl Ladd and R. Lee Ermey.
When this movie came out, "Platoon" was still a good 2 1/2 years away, the U.S. was still licking its wounds after the end of the Vietnam War about 10 years earlier;
the Vietnam War movies up to then were dark and brutal like Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter and the movie going audience at the time were not ready to accept another Vietnam War movie.

Elevator (I) (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1728975/
Untraceable (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0880578/
out of all the bad movies I've seen so far this year, these 2 take the cake for being totally moronic and brain dead!!
Especially with "Elevator"!!
When the climactic twist came in the last act, it was supposed to be shocking but because of the way the dialogue was scripted and the scene was exposed, instead of being shocked, I was Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off!!
Both films get a 1/5 of rating and that's still being too generous!!

Anonymous (I) (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/
Interesting movie about William Shakespeare not being the author of his plays, poems and sonnets.
I am not sure how much of it is real and how much of it is fiction and I am by no means, a Shakespeare Thespian but I was enthralled by this movie!
I give this a 4/5
J. Edgar (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1616195/
Long and overbearing quasi biographical movie of J. Edgar Hoover, the controversial Director who heavy-handedly ran the FBI for 36 years.
Leonardo DiCaprio turns in a surprisingly good performance in the title role and he is supported by a fine cast;
yet this is one time I feel Director Clint Eastwood has missed his mark.
Too many characters come and go never to be seen again and the pacing of the film could had used some polishing and better editing.
I give this a 3/5

King Kong (1976)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074751/
My first viewing of this film since I saw it in theaters in Italy in 1976.
I was 11 then and I thought it was an awesome movie.
I still think it's a good movie.
From reading the reviews on the internet about it; people are criticizing the special effects and Jessica Lange's acting.
You know what? Those people are idiots!
The special effects were way ahead of their time in 1976, especially the mechanical effects for King Kong with no computers and no CGI;
Furthermore, this being Lange's very first movie starring role, you can't fault her for trying.
I like to see those critics do a better job.
I still can't believe that's Charles Grodin as the Oil Magnate.
Was he doing Comedy then? You can't even hardly recognize him!!
The only part I don't understand is the ending:
did Jack decided to let Dwan have her 15 min of fame or did he decide right there and then he didn't want her anymore - because of that conversation they had in the New York bar earlier right before King Kong took Dwan again?

Autoreiji (2010) aka Outrage
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1462667/
Director Kitano Takeshi old school crime movie about the heads of different Yakuza clans fighting for power.
Gritty, violent, complex and a few parts will even leave you shocked and speechless; this movie makes you and I glad that we were not born in a Yakuza family, where you are stuck for life and the only way out is death!!

Lady Beware (1987)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093379/
Sex maniac stalks Hot Pittsburgh Window Dresser played by 21 year old Diane Lane.
There is no reason whatsoever to watch this plot hole and cliche filled B-Movie except to see Diane naked in different states of sexyness!!

Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052561/
Engrossing courtroom drama and shocking for its honest writing regarding sex and rape;
this movie caused quite a controversy when it was released in 1959.
Even just mentioning the word "Panties" was taboo back then!!
4.5/5
À Bout Portant aka Point Blank (2010)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1545759/
Excellent Action Thriller out of France without big stunts, explosions, elaborate action sequences, and CGI.
Hollywood can learn a few things from this film!!

Haywire (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1506999/
I had high expectations for this film and it just turned out to be a POS with a few big actors thrown in to attract box office sales.
Soderbergh: do the world a favour and don't make anymore action films!

The Hindenburg (1975)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073113/
a very under-rated movie portraying one of the biggest non-natural disasters of the 20th Century (next to Titanic and the Space Shuttle Challenger).
It's beautifully photographed and it's too bad the 2010 DVD release from Universal was VHS quality!!
