    Captain Phillips (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1535109

According to several articles I found on the net using GOOGLE and BING search, this movie is a lie.

The real Captain Phillips was an arrogant leader who did not heed the piracy warnings, the orders to stay at least 600 KM off the Somali coast, the procedures to keep the shipped locked down and the crew on constant watch for pirates.

    I give this film 3/5.

Getting a bit tired of Hanks! He needs to go back to playing a retard - that was and always will be his best role!

You should never take any movie "based on true events" as fact. Never. It is asinine to do so, especially if you are an adult. It is better to just look at them as dramatic recreations. I'm surprised you haven't figured that out yet. These types of movies aren't documentaries. But that being said, even documentaries tend to stretch or distort truth. I can't believe you watched 'Captian Phillips' thinking it was going to be 100% truth. lol...that's actually kind of funny.

A Japanese version of Ten Little Indians, Saw film series, Cube and Battle Royale combination but without the gory torture porn.

I like these kind of mystery-thriller movies: several strangers thrown together in a precariously strange situation and faced with the dilemma to either trust each other or kill each other if they want to survive.

Now that's how a great movie is done!

The first good movie I've seen in 2014 and I hope there will be many more.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0993846/

This was an overlong tedious movie to watch!!

Almost 20 minutes longer than The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.

It felt like it never was going to end and several times in the film, it just dragged on and dragged on; unlike The Hobbit where you didn't even know 2 hours and 40 min has gone by.

    3.75/5

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0359950/

Beautifully filmed remake of the 1947 classic but I can't recommend it.

It's like eating a full course dinner and leaving the restaurant afterward still feeling empty and hungry!

    Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790636/

Decent movie but not worthy of a Best Picture Oscar Nomination.

By the time it ended, it felt disjointed.

    I give it 3.75/5

    12 Years a Slave (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2024544

A very emotionally difficult movie to watch yet it still doesn't minimize the importance of its historical value and the scope of its dramatic impact.

If this film sweeps the Academy this year, it will be very well deserved.

    A Single Shot (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1540741/

Dark, brooding, movie about a man and the consequences of his actions.

The ominous soundtrack and the gloomy grayish filmography of a landscape devoid of colors adds to the dark mood of this violent and haunting psychological thriller.

It's a shame this film was not even anywhere on the Academy Awards' radar as Sam Rockwell turns in a great performance as a man living in the backwoods whose poverty ridden life doesn't give him many choices and opportunities and how one unexpected tragic event changes his life.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1951264/

Should had been titled The Boring Hunger Games sequel: Catching Zzzz's!

I thought the first one was bad, this is even worse!

On February 2012, I rated the first film a 0.5/5.

    I will rate this stinker:

    American Hustle (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1800241/

    Not impressed by it.

David O. Russell's direction lately has been too much by the number and linear.

Jennifer Lawrence is wasted in this film.

The dialogue (albeit most of it was improvised by the actors and actresses without a script) was awful.

This is what the Academy is picking nowadays for Best Picture?

Inside Llewyn Davis is a much better film than any of the nominated Best Picture choices and yet the Academy totally passed it by.

I think the Academy succumbed once again to Political Correctness and Special Interest.

They picked a movie for Best Picture because they didn't want to offend the Gay and Lesbian community and they picked another movie for Best Picture because they didn't want to be accused of Racial Discrimination.

Then they picked Gravity for Best Picture because it was commercially popular.

    1/5

    Rush (2013)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1979320/

Here's another movie that was snubbed by this year's Academy Awards nominations.

I've seen Dallas Buyers Club and 12 Years A Slave and Captain Philips and The Wolf Of Wall Street and Gravity and American Hustle, 6 of the 10 Best Picture nominees of this year.

    None of them moved me.

None of them made me shed any tears.

Not only did "Rush" moved me:

I had a few tears streaming down during several of the scenes.

So why is this movie overlooked by the Academy?

No Best Picture. No Best Director. No Best Actor.

Ron Howard is showing why he is getting better and better as a director whenever he directs a dramatic movie.

He is in the same league as Clint Eastwood now as director.

I give this film a 5/5, not only it's a perfect score, I am also rating it .25 higher than my previous rating for 12 Years A Slave and 1.25 higher than my previous ratings for Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf Of Wall Street.
