I just watched this movie last night, and really enjoyed it. It’s a story about Charlie Kaufman (Nicholas Cage), who is assigned the next to impossible task of adapting a novel about orchids into a movie. While the novel is good, Kaufman declares that it can’t be made into a movie. In real life, Charlie Kaufman, who also wrote the screenplay for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, was hired to write the screenplay for the novel. Adaptation is what came of it.

The acting in this movie was top notch in my book, especially from Nicholas Cage, who I'm not a big fan of. Chris Cooper and Meryl Streep are the other two main actors, with good supporting roles from Tilda Swinton, Brian Cox, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

What’s interesting about Adaptation is how similar Charlie and Donald Kaufman (brothers) are to Austin and Lee (brothers) in Sam Sheperd’s play, True West. In this play, Austin is a Hollywood screenwriter who is working on a movie script when his brother Lee, who’s been living in the desert for years, decides to stay with him for a while. Eventually, the movie producer that is working closely with Austin, decides to instead produce Lee’s idea for a classic Western film, which is rather cliché and unoriginal. Now compare this to Adaptation, and picture Charlie as Austin and Donald as Lee, and there you have it. This is obviously not a coincidence.

“I don’t want to cram in sex or guns or car chases or characters learning profound life lessons or growing or coming to like each other or overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end. The book isn’t like that, and life isn’t like that, it just isn’t. I feel strongly about this.” –Charlie Kaufman (In the movie)

    Go see this movie.

    The woods: 2.5/5
pretty boring horror/mystery movie with a suprisingly brutal ending.
The idea had potential to be a sleeper hit, but fails because of boring actors & visuals.

At long last, I can hold my head up high in the ML Forums. It has been a long time coming, but I finally saw my first Scarlett Johannson movie.

Yes, I just finished watching it. It was on TV tonight.

I no longer have to live in secret shame.

    I just finished watching....

    The Spongebob Squarepants Movie!

I must admit, she looked a little different than I expected....

Yep, she voiced the role of Mindy, the daughter of King Neptune.

BTW, TSBSPM was an OK movie, but I'm glad I didn't pay to see it (either in the theater or on DVD). They did a good job expanding an 11 minute cartoon into an hour and a half movie, but it still felt like an extended episode.

and have u seen Infernal Affairs? Coz in compare, Departed is nothin just stupid remake. IA is faaar better and lame excuses of Scorsese that he didnt make a remake are just stupid. He failed in trying to make it better.
Btw vulgar language of main characters is such a week screenplay excuse for not finding interesting dialogues that sometimes I couldnt stand it.

Watched Spiderman 2 again today, just had to see it after Trailer for n3, 5/5*

No, I didn't seen Infernal Affairs, but I'm going to watch it. Don't use word "stupid". There's nothing "stupid" in this movie. IMO dialogues were one of the best parts of "The Departed". And language... you don't know and I don't know and I think Martin could know, how really Boston police talk.

Just finished watching The Ladykillers (2004, Coen Bros.) 'Twas an odd movie that I enjoyed. Some of the acting was a bit over the top, but I liked the film overall. Weird theory I heard recently: The cat was responsible for most of the deaths. Weird, eh?

    Flags of Our Fathers

I really wanted to like this movie. I was looking forward to it since I first saw the trailer. After all, Saving Private Ryan is my favorite movie and I just am a fan of WWII movies in general. With Spielberg producing and Eastwood directing, how could you lose? I was just expecting more I suppose.

My biggest problem with the movie is the way in which it is told. I'm not a huge fan of flashbacks but I'll be honest I don't know of a better way of telling this story but it could have been a little more cohesive. One thing that bothered me was the fact they you didn't know who the men were that were telling the story in present day and who the younger man was. It was never really clear until the end.

I thought Eastwood did a great job recreating Iwo Jima as you can see from the photo montage during the end credits. I'm going to hold out final judgement until I've given it another viewing or two on DVD. I'm also treating it as the first act of a two act movie and will see Letters when it comes out.
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

I am not a huge fan of flashback story telling either; maybe I'm just dumb but I get confused by it.

Furthermore, all that talk about who was in the first picture and who was in the second picture and who did the media and the government thought in the picture got me confused.

Maybe it's because the movie didn't give the audience enough time to familiarize with all the the characters first.

Yup Flashback movies and I don't get along: that is why I still have not been able to understand completely "Memento" and I seen it 3x already!!

Anyway I am ashamed and embarassed to admit that the last movie I saw (on DVD) is:

    Ice Princess with Michelle Trachtenberg

I give it 4 out of 5 for Michelle Goodness factor!!
