Like j7, I saw Spider-man 3 at a cheaper, second-run theater (although the price is $1.50). Unlike j7, however, I liked the movie. I thought it was really good. I was worried when I heard that there were going to be three villians in this movie that they wouldn't get the screen time they deserved (like Bane in Batman and Robin), but I thought it meshed well.

    So disappointed.......
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

    Michael Moore's Sicko - 5 / 5

I don't always agree with his politics but the man knows how to tell a story. I knew the American health care system was pretty bad but I had no idea it was this bad. Even if only half of what he says is true it's still unacceptable that a nation as rich as the US has a health care system like this in place. It's absolutly disgusting to think that a government would let these sort of things go on. Call me a socialist if you want but at least our system and those in Europe (France's system in particular) work. The American health care system seems to be put into place for someone to make a buck. The rich get richer and the poor not only get poorer, they are left to die. I got angry during several of the stories that were told and my stomach turned. Especially towards the end when you saw what happens to people who can't pay their hospital bill. I can't still believe that happens in a country like the United States!

If there was one message that can be taken from this movie, it's the one about governments being afraid of it's people. That's what a democracy is suppose to be. Not the other way around. It's too bad there's such poor voter turn out in the US, especially among the poor and minorities. If one day they stood up and voted......

    yup that's the American Health System;

if you don't have $$$, you don't have Health Care.

There has been several attempts in congress to introduce a National Heath Care Bill but they have failed because the Medical Community: Doctors, Pharmaceutical Companies, Insurance Companies, etc have strong political power and a bit of $$$ under the table to influence the votes.

Massachusetts just started a State Health Care System where everyone gets health care, the cost of it is deducted from everyone paycheck and if you are below an income level or lack of income, you are exempt from paying it but you still get the same Health Care as everyone else.

California is following Massachusetts's lead with a State Health Care System of their own.

I took my wife to the doctor last week and we only paid $10 co pay for her visit because we have insurance; if we didn't, the visit was going to be $110.

That's a lot of money for people who can barely make enough to cover the most basic of living expenses: food, housing, utilities, basic transportation.

Well, that is the problem with Micheal Moore's movies. You can't even trust half of what he says. Moore is famous for half truths, partial truths, and sometimes even downright lies to progress his agenda. And he only includes items that further his own agenda, without looking at the other side at all.

For example, while it may be true that nearly 50 million Americans are uninsured (actually, I think the number is closer to 47 million), an estimated 25 million Americans have access (and can afford) health insurance, they just choose not to get it, and another 8 million who don't have health insurance are in the country illegally (sorry, I can't quote my sources, I heard it on the radio, and while he quoted his sources, I don't remember what they are). Granted, that still leaves about 14 million people who need and want health insurance who don't have it, which is still a terrible situation, but that is far from the 47 million touted in the movie. Now, while I haven't seen Sicko, I seriously doubt Moore mentions anywhere that so many Americans don't have insurance because they don't want it, and I'm sure he tells you that each and every one of those 47 million don't have it because they can't get it.

I offer very inexpensive insurance to my employees if they choose to have it and it's deducted from their paycheck, like $47 a month or something for health and another $25 for dental, etc.

Well, many of them don't want it (the young single ones).

They rather have the extra money to spend.

One of them had to go to the dentist for some dental work and it was a rude awakening for her not to have the dental coverage.

She ended up paying over $1,300 which she had to charge to her credit card.

(if she had the dental plan at $25 a month, she would had paid a max of $250 for dental work including extraction, root canal, dentures, etc with no deductibles)

Actually he starts off saying that there are about 48 million Americans who don't have health insurance but this movie isn't about them. It's about the 250 million Americans who do have health insurance and then are screwed over by their insurance companies. It's ridiculous how it works. There's one case where a woman was denied her claim because her insurance company said she didn't notify them of a condition she had years ago when she applied for her insurance. That 'condition' was a yeast infection! It's also amazing at the number of claims that were denied because the insurance company believed the treatments that these peoepls' doctors were recommending were experimental.

I can't believe that before someone is treated even in an emergency, a phone call has to be made first to an insurance company to find out what can and can't be done. Don't doctors take The Hippocratic Oath? Doesn't that mean they should put the well being of the patient first?

Outstanding performances from Bale, Zahn, and Davies. I found that it dragged a little in places but still a great story of survival.
