Talking Coming Soon: An American Dream

At long last, an American Dream is about to come true. :big grin:

Ground was broken today on the construction of our new house. My wife and I have been waiting for a year for this to happen. At one point, we thought we would be moved in by the end of July, but that obviously fell apart, mainly due to weather-related delays. I don't have the exact schedule for completion yet, but it will probably be completed late November or early December.

It is a 2,037 square foot two-story home, 2-car garage, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. It will be located in a small town about 20 miles east of Indianapolis, Indiana. It will be quite a switch from our 800 square foot apartment.

The photo of the house above is a picture of a similar house to what we are getting. Some of the details, especially the colors, will be different than shown, but for the most part, that is accurate.

    Congrats!!
You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.

Actually, the property values are so high around here that in a lot of cases it was cheaper to build. And we were lucky enough to find one of the cheape... um, I mean, one of the more inexpensive builders in the area.

All I'll say about the cost of the home is it is less than $130,000.

$130,000 is pretty good considering most single family homes are $250,000 in NYC.

The American Dream is the concept that everyone who works hard will eventually achieve certain stuff like building their own house.

Well, for now I think the Game Room will become our computer/backup entertainment area. You aren't too far off on the 3 bedrooms though. The "Master Bedroom" will be for us, "Bedroom 2" will be for our guests, and "Bedroom 3" will be my wife's arts and crafts room (she oil paints, as well as works on quilts, and wanted an area where she could spreadout.)

It's not too bad for around here, either. There aren't too many homes of any size, age, or shape around here for much under $100,000.

BTW, good explanation for the American Dream. I couldn't say it better myself. Although in this case, I consider owning a home to be the "dream." Building it is just "icing on the cake."

Finally, after 15 months of waiting, the end is officially in sight.

My wife and I are closing on our new house next Tuesday (Dec. 9).

Well, by this time tomorrow I should be the proud father of a bouncing baby house.

Consequently, my presence on the ML Forum will probably suffer over the next two weeks or so. Just thought I would warn you.
