Ok, Carl, you might want to chill a bit. You're getting all upset over nothing here.

I admit, my first posting was a bit much. This thread caught me on a bad day and I made a serious, critical argument. But since then every post of mine has been dripping with sarcasm. For example, I didn't explain rhetorical questions to trailergod because I though he actually didn't know. I thought it'd be a funny way to respond to his posting (sorry, I'd use the David Letterman emoticon to let you know when I was being sarcastic, but I'm having trouble finding it).

I'm just pointing out ironies here. Sorry. I thought it'd be a fun direction for this thread to go. And though I probably agree with people like Jake, I think his "go **** yourself" comment was out of line for a light-hearted thread like this.

So take a deep breath, Carl. Go out for a stroll. You're speading a lot of time critizing people about humor. I'm guessing you're a much funnier guy than this thread makes you appear. Or check out Stormwalker's latest post. Now he knows sacarism! LOL Great post!

I'm looking forward to your return, trailergod.

You claim that I started the personal attacks? If this board is accurate you LOL at me twice prior to me singling you out. Laughing at someone publicly IS a personal attack.

And for the record my initial post was the opposite of a personal attack. Although I disagreed with much of the attitute displayed on this thread I endorsed the military protection of people I disagreed with. I pointedly said I wanted the American military to shoot the people who would want to kill people like you. I think that's a very nice thing to say to someone you disagree with.

I might be a newbie, but this whole tough guy thing you're throwing at me might work in Europe, but it certainly doesn't intimidate me.

Finally, I apologize if my posting to hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to do that. I assumed you were as tough as you present yourself. Like I stated in my post to Carl, I we hoping you'd catch the sarcaism and would have hurt feelings over it. Sorry, if I was wrong. I'll try to nicer in the future.

Now listen very carefully, I shall say this only once. No one here has any hurt feelings over what you said, we were annoyed. The difference being that we lash out and forget about you, as opposed to ignoring you then crying ourselves to sleep. The reason we were annoyed is because you portray a holier than though attitude, whether that is intended or not. Yes I picked up on a lot of sarcasm on your posts, and I readily admit that the net is sometimes hard to spot such things. Yet you come here into an international forum going on about how America is all that is good in the world. You did it again in your last post, all that stuff about shooting the guys who want to do us harm is very condescending to people who know it's not true. Take UK for example. How many people have died from IRA bombs over the years, I've lost count. How many people in UK have been scared to leave their homes because of terrorism over the years, a lot. Yet most of us get on with our lives because we recognize that the authorities are keeping a lot of the terrorism at bay. Throughout all of this, how much support has the US offered? None, zilch zero. The terrorists even traveled to America to buy the weapons.

Then America is hit with a terrorist attack, and they decide to go to war with a country because of a few individuals there. That's not what I'm arguing here. However are you honestly trying to say that the US is motivated by saving the world, or could it be the US is saving themselves?

Now can you quit trying to make yourself better than everyone else, and then we will accept you into the forum.

Wow, did this conversation go downhill fast. Enkydu, I understand you have your opinions on what you see here, and please feel free to present them. But, [taking my moderator hat off] I'd recommend that you spend some more time at this forum before you decide to psychoanalyze the forum members. [Moderator hat back on.] Now that said, you look to be a very educated and opinionated person, and I hope you decide to remain at the forums, just don't waste your time in these disputes, believe me, I've been down that road, and it leads nowhere. (And hey, the Packers are WINNING! )

On a final note, forums and politics simply do not mix. Nobody is going to agree on everything and it'll always end up in a debate where people will take things personally and start attacking others. So, to whoever reads this, moderators, forumites, I'm asking that you try to avoid subjects of politics and religion, so we don't have to worry about this happening.
