    The Ring 2

    Release Date: November 10, 2004
    Studio: DreamWorks Pictures
    Director: Noam Murro
    Screenwriter: Ehren Kruger
Starring: Naomi Watts, David Dorfman, Daveigh Chase
    Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Based Upon: (9/10/03) This is the sequel to the 2002 surprise hit, The Ring, which was itself a (loose) English-language remake of the 1998 Japanese horror hit, Ringu. That film inspired a prequel, 'Ringu 0,' and two sequels, 'Rasen' and 'Ringu 2,' but this movie will not be based on any of them, but will be an original sequel, spinning off from the English-language remake.

Director Notes: (9/9/03) It's possible that Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) will not be returning as director this second time around. (11/12/03) In a curious twist, DreamWorks has hired first-time director Noam Murro, who is currently best known for the "Got Milk?" commercials featuring a spooky little boy with ESP, which in a way (visually, at least) spoof 'The Ring' (and The Sixth Sense).

Premise: (9/9/03) No details are currently known about this film, except that it will have something to do with the mysterious video tapes from the first movie which seemed to cause people who saw them to die seven days later. The only other things that are currently known is that journalist Rachel Keller (Watts) will be returning, and that the film will have plot elements that make it both a prequel (showing the origins of the character played by Daveigh Chase) and a sequel.

Filming: Production is scheduled to start in January, 2004 (pushed back slightly from a tentative late 2003 start date).

Oh, you gotta be kidding me, they dare to make a sequel to this horribly sick yet not scary at all, crap?

I think that Hollywood will make a sequel out of everything
they better not try Fight Club 2

i bet they offered gore verbinski to direct this and he declined.
i don't think dreamworks would be that stupid after he had this massive success with pirates and also with the ring.
somebody told me you have a boyfriend who looks like a girldfriend that i had in february of last year the killers

    What's going on now?
"Ehren Krueger, is obviously writing the sequel. The script is part prequel/part sequel with the first thirty five pages being a fleshed out backstory. Right now this is being jettisoned as Dreamworks wants to make that section of the script into a completely independent prequel film (which Ehren will at least write the treatment for, if not the whole film) and thus is busy trying to come up with a beginning for the movie and still be able to make its march start date. While he works on that, Dreamworks is looking for a hire end closer to do a couple steps on the second and third acts".

Well, the original Ring was made into a series. A sequel and prequel were made after the success of the first one...

I kind of expected this to happen after the success of the Hollywood release - don't see why people sound surprised... sequels that should not have been made have been made for decades now... why would that change now?

(not that i agree with it as a movie-watcher... were i a producer however, i'd have a different opinion..)

Ring 2: According to Variety, Hideo Nakata is returning to the ring. The Japanese director behind the original "Ringu," upon which the 2002 horror pic "The Ring," was based, is in negotiations to helm "The Ring 2" for DreamWorks. Nakata will replace director Noam Murro, who dropped from the project earlier this week. "The Ring 2" will mark Nakata's American directorial debut now that he is no longer directing "True Believers" at MGM.
