    Post "Independence Day: 2"?

    Here is an article about a posible "ID4:2" from <A HREF="http://filmforce.ign.com/">IGN FilmForce.com</A>

    <img src="http://ffmedia.ign.com/filmforce/image/id4_ffbox.jpg" alt=" - " />

    </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial"> Second Independence Day Going Ahead Sans Smith
Devlin and Emmerich have a story idea they like.

June 13, 2002 - "I think we've finally found a concept we like," Devlin tells Cinescape magazine. "Something Roland [Emmerich] and I are very excited about, and we're now trying to work it into a movie and hopefully we'll start writing the script sometime in the next year."

A sequel to the self-contained story of the original Independence Day may raise question marks in some people's minds. Filmmaking team Devlin and Emmerich realize that, and it poses a challenge in creating a successor to their hit science fiction blow-'em-up adventure. "So many sequels make the mistake of trying to make the first film over again. ...[The first Independence Day] was never intended to have a sequel," explains Devlin. "We didn't want to jam one into it. So when an idea came up which really felt organic to the story we were trying to tell, we got really excited. It's not really beyond the second film. I don't think this is franchise building. We wanted to wait until he had an idea where we said, 'That's worth doing.' I think we finally have it."

Devlin says that the events of 9/11 gave him and Emmerich new perspective on the possibility of a second ID4. "It spurred a lot of discussion, and out of those discussions came a way of doing the film. And we move from that."
Devlin compares Independence Day 2 to what George Lucas has accomplished with Star Wars or James Cameron with the Alien films - how each film had its own "voice", even though they were linked with a common theme. Devlin does stress, however, that they have no plans for sequels beyond ID4:2.

Devlin has not said if the script he is preparing will include characters from the first film, though he has expressed a commitment to get as many of the original actors on board as possible. Will Smith, star fighter pilot in the original, has indicated that he won't take part in a sequel. The project is going forward despite his tentative absence, and we can only speculate at this point what Devlin and Emmerich will cook up for the Independence Day 2 storyline. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Idk that is kinda weird sounding.

I'm not sure how they could make a sequel for this. I'd like to see another ID4, Devlin and Emmerich have a rare talent for destroying american national landmarks, but I can't see where they'll go with it. Maybe if they did a hyper-futuristic showdown on another planet... but then we wouldn't get to see Parliament Hill in Ottawa(mysteriously absent from ID4) get turned to dust.

Actually I would be interested in seeing a sequel. If you think about it the sky is the limit on where they could go, we now know there are other intelligent beings out there in the universe, is there only one or many and the permutations are endless, kinda like star trek. If it's made well and has a good plot then it's do-able, no doubt.

Hey, consider this... what we thought was the Mother Ship that Will Smith blew up.. was merely the FIRST WAVE....

And rememeber those sexual experiments the aliens did on Randy Quade... imagine a thousand cloned Randy Quades!

I am looking forward to this movie.

Well, considering that all rumors on this film were in 2002, I don't think it will happen. I don't want it to, anyways.

The last time I truely heard anything about this film the plot was basically this from what I remember:

"it takes place a few months or years after the first film where Earth was in the rebulding stages (or near finished rebuilding) and had adapted the Alien technology for human use, when it is made known that the "Mothership" from the first film was actually 1 of two "Motherships" and this new ship was coming to find out what happened to the first after reciving some type of communication from the first ship before it blew up"

along with that the film was to show a land based Alien invasion force on the ground fighting humans using the adapted Alien technology to fight off the alien attackers. As to if this is anything to do with the real "ID4:2" I don't know, I just remember this is what I heard about the movie at the time.

Best idea for sequel (in my opinion - this one ID4 is just fine) - Earth must take revange and prepare strike back.

a good idea for a sequel is that earth blows up and a space ship escapes with some men and women and they drift into a new planet and create a new species.

OK I am new here but a LONG time sci fi fan and ID4 was a OK movie but has SOOO much more potential.....unless everyone is dense not ALL the aliens would have been killed, " remember all the landing craft loading and leaving?" I am sure some number would have been able to control an area say Australia or some other chunk of real estate,

they would have lost the bulk of heavy weapons but from all the wreckage some " goodies" would have been available on both sides,

story line, have several... a squad on the ground ala Iraq/saving private Ryan type behind enemy lines with a critical mission......new government infiltrator curring favor with the enemy for there own profit/survival/...A whole the world now " gets it " and puts aside petty rivalries to survive

the using all the technology we glean from wreckage as well as our most secret weapons now can be made public instead of hiding it from all the other countries... including our allies

space cruisers or near space vehicles.....and who says the aliens didn't have rivals that would fight for earth to prevent the aliens " or us" filling that rival role?

the possibilities are endless the story lines and possible character development fantastic
