Actor Jim Carrey Tops Money-Making List

NEW YORK - Jim Carrey (news) tops the list in a poll of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars of 2003 by Quigley Publishing Co., which conducts an annual survey of motion picture exhibitors.

Nicole Kidman finished second, followed by Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and Renee Zellweger.

The Quigley Poll, conducted every year since 1932, asks motion picture exhibitors to vote for the 10 stars who generated the most box-office revenue for their theaters.

Exhibitors also were asked to name the Stars of Tomorrow for 2003 — one actor and one actress who they feel will be top moneymakers in the years to come. The 2003 winners are Ashton Kutcher and Scarlett Johansson.

jim carrey is first and nicole kidman is second?
don't get me wrong, i really like her and she chooses great roles, but she doesn't have any blockbusters, how can she be the no2 moneymaker? in 2003 she only had the human stain and cold mountain in us theaters + the hours and dogville internationally.
hugo weaving should be no1, he has reloaded, revolutions + return of the king, but i guess they don't count supporting roles.

btw: i can imagine scarlett johansson as the next big actress, but i highly doubt that ashton kutcher will be *the* actor in the next few years. did he have big hit or an acclaimed movie yet??
somebody told me you have a boyfriend who looks like a girldfriend that i had in february of last year the killers

Wahoo! I am a very BIG fan of Mr. Carrey and his works. And why is number one? He's got some hilarous movies that everyone wants to see! I hope he spends wisely.

i think in terms of the actual money they are getting..not how much their movies are earning

hugo weaving may have been in many blockbusters this year, but did he actually get money from them?

Tom Criuse did not get any salary from Last Samurai but gets about 50% of the gross of the movie, which they say could be around $90Million

    oh, now i see
still i don't see why nicole kidman is on top. she may be a respected actress and quite succesful at award shows, but she is no moneymaker, why does she get high salaries?
sure, it should be about art and talent, but in the end studios only care about box office

hm, so if this box office thing with the multiplier of 3 is really true, both movies need 45.000.000$ only to pay nicole kidman without having a loss

pretty much, but I swear, they're not overpaid!

No, I'd say Keanu should've been up there. Or just Pixar, as a general entity. As disappointing as Reloaded was, those two movies still raked in a good 420 mil between them. Sad that it's quite possible RotK'll pass that.

I would think Tom Cruise would be #1 but then again he doesn't make as much as he used to
