What movies are banned in your country?

There was a feature in this months Empire magazine about banned movies. It got me wondering, what movies are banned in your country?

Here is a list of banned movies on Australia.

    • Baise-Moi - Banned due to heavy rape, sex and violence
    • The Beyond - Banned for Heavy violence
    • Bad Taste - Only the uncut is banned, only cut version is allowd.
    • The Burning - Banned for Violence
    • Cannibal Apocalypse - Uncut version banned only
    • Cannibal Ferox - Banned totally
    • Cannibal Holocaust - Banned. If you bring a copy from overseas, customs WILL confiscate it.
    • Contamination - Ban has been lifted, but still not released.
    • Deep River Savages - Banned for animal cruelty.
    • Ken Park - Banned for real sex, incest, and much much more
    • Man Bites Dog - Uncut version banned. Rape scene removed for release.
    • Rape Squad - Banned, Title says it all
    • Faces of Death - Banned for animal cruelty
    • Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - Uncut banned for incest and dead person rape. Cut version not banned.
    • The Hills Have Eyes - Cut for release, Uncut Banned.
    • I Spit on You Grave - Uncut Banned for rape. Eight mins cut for release.
    • Salo: 120 Days of Sodom - Banned for rape, poo eating and more!
    • The Last House on the Left - Banned in Australia, but I smuggled in the Uncut DVD.
    • Pink Flamingos - Banned for ages, but released in heavily cut form.
    • Snuff - Cut for torture.
    • SS Experiment Love Camp - Banned all over the world it seems.
    • Zombie Flesh-Eaters - Released in cut version 2 years ago.

It's looking like Irreversible may be banned soon cos everyone wants to. Better go see it Aussies before it does.

Funny how we ban all these yet we have uncut versions of movies such as Spun, Rules of Attraction and American Psycho.

I don't know, but let me tell you .. Salo should be banned everywhere. I foolishly bought it from a list of "great" movies .. I think it was a Criterion selection. When I got it and tried to watch it, I got physically ill. It is the most disgusting display that I could ever imagine being put on film. I've never again bought a movie from any list without finding out something about it first.

The thread is not about cuts, it's about bans, real censorship. You're link gives a lot of unrelated info that makes the situation look bad. I can think of only one film banned in UK where the ban is likely to remain if the studios tried to release them now. Cannibal Holocaust, banned justifiably for cruelty to animal.

    nothing in Slovenia either

I mean, I really don't remember that any movie was banned here in Slovenia. but I remember back in Yugoslavia that Stanley Kubrick himself not allowed that any of His movies play there (he was in some 'fight' with Yugoslavia)...

Well, as far as I know the only banned movies are those showing real crimes, if you murder someon on tape I don't think they'll let you distribute it. Actually I', curious if there are any banned in the US

I never knew, well so long as every scene that involved actual animal cruelty was cut then it would be released. Still I reckon it should have been banned anyway just so that kind of film making wouldn't be encouraged. Interesting link BTW, (the original OT link) I've read through a few of the articles and now, even less than before, I can't understand why people complain about the BBFC.

Well, I think there's more than a chance, Carl - what with over 5 minutes of footage deleted. Banned films I feel are just pure exploitation that pushes the boundaries of taste which is not what movies should do - they can be shocking, but they can't just be an indurance test in replusion. Though there are banned films that are really tame - Contamination cam of the nasty list into a "15" certificate, LOL.

Banned, but found on my shelf (in case you have missed me mentioning on multiple occasions):

    Ken Park
    Man Bites Dog
    I Spit on You Grave
    Salo

    Thank you, parallel importing.

Technically, I can go to jail possessing these material refused for classicifications. But no one will know unless I start bootlegging these titles in the flea market...

Saw Baise Moi legally before it get banned. Saw Irreversible too. But they're not good enough to convince me possessing the DVDs.

Actually, come to think of it. None of these films (I've got) are worthy of multiple watching. I watched Salo more than once since I've got way too many DVD versions, thanks to the crap yet extremely rare genuine barebone Criterion version.

I said it once, and I'll say that again: when it comes to access to films, Australia is a third-world country.

Would be much happier if I had moved to the US, Japan or Hong Kong... but noooooo, the old man had to pick Melbourne, Australia...
