    From Scifiwire

    Unmasking Fantastic's Doom

Julian McMahon, who plays evil villain Victor Von Doom in the upcoming Marvel comic-book feature film Fantastic Four, told SCI FI Wire that his character's familiar steel armor will be an organic side effect of the same cosmic rays that create the Fantastic Four. That's a change from Doom's origin in the comic books. "Once they all come back to Earth, Victor gets a cut in his head, and he starts to develop this stuff on his hand," McMahon said in a press conference on the set in Vancouver, B.C. "It's actually a very cool thing we've done, ... this very slow evolution of this man turning into this kind of metal-steel kind of product. I don't even know what it is."

Though the final look of Dr. Doom is being kept under wraps by the studio, producer and Marvel president Avi Arad confirmed in the same press conference that McMahon's prosthetic metal makeup will evolve throughout the film and "end up where you would expect it to be."

McMahon, an Australian actor best known for F/X's Nip/Tuck, added that some elements will be taken directly from the comic-book series, and others will be expanded upon. One thing that won't be changed is the rivalry between Doom and Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four, played by Ioan Gruffudd. But there will be an additional point of tension between them. "These two are basically nemeses from day one," McMahon said. "Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards, and Victor had this battle for Sue [Jessica Alba], who was the most gorgeous woman on the planet. ... And you really get to see these characters as people before they become something. So it's not until they go up into space and they get enveloped by this cosmic storm and they all develop their individual powers that they really start to embrace them and start to take on their original and probably deeper characteristics." Fantastic Four wraps in December and is scheduled for release July 1, 2005.

" an organic side effect"....??? not that i really had big hopes for this movie, but i think my expectations are about the same for the first FF movie that came out a few years ago....

Just watched it, pretty cool stuff. I doubt this will be up for too long! We get to see some good shots of the Human Torch, The Thing, a test of Mr. Fantastic, some cheesy WIP effects for Sue, and the FIRST SHOT OF DR. DOOM.

It's an interesting route that they are going with Doom, kinda reminds me of Colossus.

    July 4th will be FANTASTIC!

EDIT: I think that it was weird that they put into two shots from Armageddon in there. One shot was at the beginning of the ending montage where you see the nuclear blast that destroyed the big meteor (in armageddon) and a shot of the Russian space station blowing up.

    Weird.

I think the movie is on its way to becoming great. My guess is this footage is a teaser or specifically designed for studio execs. A lot of stuff is very rough. Some of the interior shots look as though the are from a TV movie.

I like Johnny Storm - Human torch CGI is a bit more defined than I expected

I also like Ben Grimm - I thought that the choice of Chiklis to go non-CGI would be silly, but it actually works.

I was wondering too if the shot of the space shuttle docking and the shuttles flying through space were "borrowed" from Armageddon. Was taking a look at Armageddon pics, and other shots of the shuttle scenes had the same color pallete and similar designs for the shuttles.

Also - what's with the video game footage near the end - Ben Grimm throwing a car

The link is down for now. Mirror sites should be up soon.

This video was so popular it crashed all of Joblo's servers!

EDIT: A mirror file is available in quicktime at themoviebox.com

That wasn't video game footage at the end, that was CG animated storyboards. They create those to help with more visually complicated sequences. They started using those in Jurassic Park (though they used claymation for those because CG wasn't planned for JP until tests were created proving it could be done).

They are called Animatics, The are basically the next step in the story boarding process they are used give a idea of what the visuals will look like in the scene.

I never got into the Fantastic Four...this trailer looks good...but did very little to get me very interested.

This is two days old, check the movie news forum. Even JPB had a thread but deleted it because it was already posted.
